Niagara Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Hello : Niagara here .. if anyone could answer these ?? = much thanks . first == is a simple one == what is the new counter under the FPS counter used for .. second == can the in game hud map , be moved to a second monitor .. third == I have new monitor ( Asus VG27AG /IPS screen @ 2560x1440 / 144 hz ) running a NVidia GTX 1070 Founders ed,, IL2 setting are all set to the max = and every thing looks Fantastic .. I know the GPU can not get the full potential out of the Monitor .. here is the ?? In single player mod for testing , I can get a high FPS of about 143 at alt and down low is 80-90 on the deck over large city's lowest I have seen is 63 fps all smooth sailing .. ... .. IL2 FPS setting was set at 144 hz ,, Should I cap the FPS at say 80 or 60 fps or leave it at 144 to match the monitor ? I am looking for best visual and smoothness and to not have the GPU fighting the Monitor ... THANKS :Niagara ..
Chief_Mouser Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 (edited) Update 4.007 8. The current FOV (Field Of View) value is shown next to the in-game FPS counter (that is activated by Backspace key by default); Not sure that I can definitively help you with the other two, but I leave my 144Hz monitor at 144. I did lower it to 100 but couldn't see any difference. I'm running a similar set-up to you, same size monitor and GTX1070. Edited July 15, 2020 by 216th_Cat
Niagara Posted July 15, 2020 Author Posted July 15, 2020 I did find this on another thread here at IL2 ==if any other opinions or conformations ?? please chime in .. This is why we are told to set the fps to 60 in game. I will let the video editing gurus here explain more if any chime in. Achieving higher average frame rates is more a marketing ploy to get you to replace your old equipment. Achieving higher average frame rates per second is what one should expect with any card upgrade. Most importantly, the human eye can differentiate b/w fluctuating (average) frame rates, so even though you can achieve 115 fps, once it drops to 90 fps you might see a lag, and that defeats to purpose of setting fps target that high.

Smoothness and benefits from frame rate are subjective and user specific. If as you are playing, you are noticing dips and lag from the frame rate going down from the top amount, you may want to limit the frames to a lower point so that you don't notice those steep drops. If it is not jarring to you then keep the setting as-is and enjoy the times when you get your really high frames. For me I like consistency more than max performance at any given time, but I have never gamed on a high refresh rate monitor for any length of time so I don't know how important it is for Il-2.
Chief_Mouser Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Don't have any problems with it set to 144. Average fps depends so much on what you are doing. Online co-ops with half a dozen friends and 10-20 AI seem to sit around 90-100. Scripted campaigns with a squadron takeoff usually just above 100. Staring at the sky in a QMB all on my ownsome will be 140. I very seldom see drops below 60 (which is the maximum my old monitor could achieve), so I'm quite happy to take the excess where I can. As I said, similar system to yours, video-wise. I think that your best bet is simply to experiment. Leave it high and if you don't get problems - great. If you do, down it comes. Simples.
Niagara Posted July 15, 2020 Author Posted July 15, 2020 FAIR WARNING: it may just be my set up ==BUT== everything was working fine either at setting of 144 fps or 80 fps ...then i tried 60fps and with in 3 min of flight time = BAM .. ARTIFACTS all over screen .. restart again and again !!! same / same ==spent 5-6 hours trying everything --- then a Gpu stress test a few min in and ==BAM , SAME THING .. maybe my card was on the way out ?? --- or-- the Asus TUF GV 27AQ / GTX 1070 DON'T LIKE 60 FPS ==FIGHTING EACH OTHER ??.. Well F me , new card on order RTX 2070 SUPER -OC , =I guess the dark forces got me on this one ... in the end for the better , except taking my cash $$$. if anyone might know what happened besides a GPU fail ?? let me know and maybe i can salvage this card ?? Thanks Niagara .. at this point i cant even boot up with out the artifacts ... useless ... the card was about 3-4 years old .. I have tried 3 diff monitors and 2 diff display port cables with same results ...

Niagara Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 Yes : its a Gsync Monitor , after the issue started , I set it back to 144 fps , but the issue remained , and got worse each time I ran it , and the stress test did it in ..

Probably just a coincidence then. Sorry about your card.
