Cockpit instruments Views Differ

I always though the models were the same between interior view and exterior view.

Just an FYI, this is not a criticism, just surprised.

Different models to keep the size down, I guess. There are some nice touches, though - e.g., in the 41 and 42 versions of the IL-2, in the F1 cockpit view you can move the gunsight backwards and forwards towards the pilot. If you look at the external F2 view you can actually see it do the same.

Pretty common optimization in simulators. I imagine it's a necessary concession - loading the cockpit with the highest fidelity for all planes while you are in a dogfight with multiple opponents would tank the framerate eventually and the alternative of creating multiple LODs for something which essentially will not be visible 99.9% of the time would be resources better spent elsewhere.

Guys, you are missing the point. When you look at the compass, the gauge with the stylized aircraft, you can see, it is at different locations in inside and outside view. In inside view it is top left, while in outside view it is top middle, where in inside view the artificial horizon is located.

The external view seems to be using the F-4 instrument panel. Makes sense to just reuse one everywhere.

I noticed it by accident. I had zoomed in for an photo opt when I noticed that the compass was in the wrong spot. I don't know if it is a frame rate concern, but may be more expedient matter. As noted the you can only see it from a certain angle in exterior mode and the amount of time creating the image may not be the best use of the developer's time.
