Is there a way to know if your target is human or AI?

My brother and I were mooching around on an empty dogfight server this evening with AI switched on (we're far to rubbish to go up against real people). Then another human player joins the server and within minutes (s)he'd shot down both my brother and I. It was almost like (s)he knew which aircraft were human.

The server had object and nav markers switched off.

Is it just the crappy way we fly, or is there some trick hitherto unknownst to us?

What server were you in - if it was a server with plane icons you see the name on plane or the player's name

If I'm in a server were I can see icons of player's name I go after him first

No, no player icons at all. All markers were off.

The AI always flies smooth and despite recent improvements, follows certain patterns in its flight. (this is somewhat inevitable in AI) They use the vertical a bit more now and will even occasionally get into scissors with you. But they don't pull hard enough to stall, for example, and they are always coordinated. If you two were flying close to each other, that's not something the AI does in most dogfight servers, usually they are just individually spawned there.

The way I can tell AI is the way they enter turns, how long they stay in them, when they enter a diving turn, etc. It just becomes recognizable after awhile, though IMO it has gotten harder to recognize AI since they have mostly now stopped simply turning eternally, or at least it takes a while before they do that.

maybe just shot aircraft down regardless...

I think the reality is that he didn’t know which Planes were AI or not. He went for the nearest target (which was probably you) and shot you down.

If it’s Berloga (the most popular dogfight server), when I first started out, I’d make a massive effort to help spotting and IDing aircraft, which is very important in the MP servers.
