Air Attack Two-Squad League Matches to Resume - Pilots and Squads Needed

If you played Air Attack or Fighter Ace, and especially league matches, from the late 90's, you will already know what I am talking about.

For anyone else who is interested in flying for a squad against other squads in an organised league listen up :)

So, imagine, its match day, you are sat on the runway with your team mates, you are on comms finalising tactics that you probably practiced during the week. The referee starts the countdown, your adrenalin pumps up, you are even shaking a little with anticipation, then you get the "SCRAMBLE". Engines to full throttle , you all roar down the runway and take heading at full climb for the location provided by your CO's instructions, maybe you all stayed together, maybe you sent a scout  to find the enemy, perhaps you split into two wings at different altitudes. I wonder what the enemy is doing!

Suddenly the Enemy is spotted, you engage watching each others sixes, maybe you were winging in twos, but chaos ensues, its a free for all. Team mates giving updates on hits, people asking for help, someone yells "you have one on your six", someone shouts "don't worry I've got him". The comms sound like something from the battle of Britain. Everyone is buzzing, the scores are level, its near the end of the round, don't die we need the points.

This is what we used to do on Air Attack, and it is coming to IL2 very soon, a small team from the US/Australia has been putting everything in place for the past six months and its nearly ready to launch  with a friendly 2-Squad league to fine tune everything.

We have initially been recruiting old Air Attack and Fighter Ace pilots and have brought a lot of new pilots into IL2 - myself included. Some have also come from Fighter Base and War Thunder. We also want to bring totally new players into the game and help to build the community - regardless of whether pilots want to use our servers or fly in the league. BTW you are welcome to just fly our servers without signing up.

We are now also recruiting existing IL2 pilots and this is your chance to get involved. You are welcome to try it and if you don't like what we have planned that's fine, although I'm sure you will, and joining the match league doesn't in anyway stop you from doing exactly what you already do - it's an optional extra :)

If you haven't done anything like this before don't worry, the squads are super friendly and we will work with you to build your skills, learn tactics, and above all have an absolutely amazing time. Although Air Attack has been dead for a long time I made lots of friends through it that I am still in touch with today and you can do the same.

So, some detail.

These matches are about having fun, getting together with like minded people and generally just having a blast. We fly on basic server settings, so padlock is enabled, tags are visible, you don't need to go through engine starting routines etc but you can still blackout. If you have flown Berloga and EU servers you will find the match and practice servers to be very similar.

You may have noticed the new server(s) which are tagged "Air Attack Tactical Combat". At least one server is generally available so please look out for them and try them out. The training server has bot planes in for target practice and is great for getting your aim in - but human pilots are also targets, its a free for all. The servers are still been tweaked for the first league matches so please feedback any issues.

The league is open to any pilots anywhere in the world, just as Air Attack was, and we are also starting to build up new squads. If you have fancied building your own squad now would be a good opportunity.

At the moment there are half a dozen squads forming in the US and one in the UK but we also have pilots from Australia, Canada and other counties joining up. My Air Attack squad, "The Warships" had pilots from AUS, NZ, Japan, US, UK, Canada, Germany and France to name a few, we are looking to recreate this community in the Air Attack match league on IL2. A dedicated website has been built for Squads and pilots to use and will be opened up to everyone in due course.

I am based in the UK and am currently helping the old "Thorn" squad to reform. We need additional pilots and also anyone who would like to get more involved with running the squad, perhaps taking training sessions or even acting or helping as CO in matches.

So, regardless of where you are located, if you are interested please post here with contact details - we have a Discord server which I can make available and you are also welcome to drop in for a chat.

We would also like to get people flying on the new Air Attack Tactical Servers so please hop on and see what you think, especially if you are in the UK as the servers are mostly used by the US at the moment. Please let us have your feedback if you find anything not working - they are new servers.

I know a lot of IL2 enthusiasts like to fly full realism but we have pilots who do both and they love the excitement of a furball so everyone is welcome - why not give it a try, nothing to lose :)

For contact please pm me or you can find details of our Discord server on https://il2airattack.com/.

The website is still new so doesn't have a lot of content at the moment but this something we will be working on - its not meant to be an alternative to this site and its focus will be for the management of the league matches with schedules, leaderboards etc.

Feel free to take a look, register, post comments, join or create new squads etc.

Everyone welcome. If you know anyone flying other games who might be interested please let them know, it would be great to bring more new people into IL2 :)
