Title Luftwaffe Aerial Torpedo Aircraft and Operations in World War Two Author Harold Thiele Publisher Hikoki, 2004 ISBN 1902109422 Never read it in detail, it will do as an introduction. The main part is a chronological time-line about Luftwaffe torpedo-bomber-operations. There are some more books published in German - let me know if you want to dig into that. 2
=FEW=fernando11 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Actually besides a general interest, I was wondering along with a mate. If LW aerial torpedoes could be set up like Uboot torpedoes to run in a difrerent course than straight ahead. Like input of: Target speed, range, and AoB so the torpedoe does the calculation of point of impact. Or where just droped pointing at where the ship was expected to be, hopping for the hit.
cardboard_killer Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 I think they ran straight, or at least they hoped the torps would run straight!

There were some computers in use... Not as sophisticated as what submarines did... but still there. If you pick up a copy of the latest 4.12-4.14 patches for Il-2 1946 you can see that the German mid-war torpedo bombers can set angles for the torpedoes (to produce a spread after they enter the water) and the torpedo computers allow entering some information about the target (e.g. the SM.79 torpedo sight). There were also pattern running torpedoes (e.g. simple triangular, circle, or spiral patterns) dropped from aircraft during the war. The Italian aircraft in Il-2 1946 have one of these. 1 1
