AmosUK Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hi there, As the steam sale is in full swing I checked here to see if there were any sales on here I was after a collector plane or 2, I was just going to buy 1 plane to see how easy it is to get going I have a steam version linked here, and wanted the devs to get 100% of the money I spend, problem is and maybe this is an oversight or mistake, but buying a plane here is more expensive than on steam for example a spitfire is $4.99 on steam its £3.99, with paypal fee's it works out £4.21 same for battle of bodenplatte its $24.99 on steam its £19.99 works out to be £21.09 on here, so cheaper on steam on both accounts, I am aware of currency conversion, but for me it doesn't really promote your website might aswell save a few pennies and get it all in one place, it should be the other way round encourage your customers to buy here and not on steam all those 30% charges steam take you could rake back, to me this is a no brainer and just wanted to point this out to the sales team.
=MOCAP=Thaddeus_Darwin Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Although I understand the purpose of your post - and admittedly, I see the point absolutely... I see it from a different perspective: I too was suckered in by the slightly cheaper price on Steam - on more than one occasion - but now I have finally started playing the game more seriously after a long break away from playing CloD and am moving more into the community, firstly I miss the badges I could have displayed on my postings in order for people to know which of the series I have and am avilable to play but most of all, the development presence within these forums is worth way more than the extra quid or two that it costs to support them and I am more than happy to fork out that little extra. I will always be buying from the site in future. ...would it also be ethical to be in competition with the platform that is hosting your game...? See you in the skies...!! TD ? 1

Question: Does purchasing off of Steam mean that all of the money goes to Valve and none of the money makes it's way to the development team? I ask because this is the first time I've seen the issue framed as "competition" wherein it's implied the full profit go to a completely different (if not competing) entity. As opposed to 1C simply getting a smaller cut since they are sharing the profits with a business partner (i.e., Valve). I'm sure the details of any percentages etc. are very sensitive and confidential from a business perspective and I have no interest in those, but the generalities are brought up so much on this forum I'd like to have a better understanding of at least the principle. Up until now I've been operating under the understand that it's simply "better" (assumed from a pure percentage standpoint) for the developer(s) for us to buy direct. Edited June 29, 2020 by Stoopy

AmosUK Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 yeah its 30% so its really a lose lose for 1C as its cheaper to buy for the player on steam but valve takes their 30% cut, so from a person who wants to pay the least amount steam is the winner, from a business owner perspecitve this makes no sense their objective should be to attract players from steam to here, like attracting customers from ebay to your website so you don't have any ebay fee's, they could always add 30% to the steam dlc prices or have prices not just in USD but in GBP EUR etc, that way the customer is more enticed to buy from here as opposed to steam, also its very easy on steam and they offer a refund too, so really its an opportunity to be taken advantage of especially in these hard times everybody is experiencing.
40plus Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 As the above comparison includes international currency exchanges and PayPal fees, it's a bit unfair. But I do get the main point OP is trying to get across. Also, doesn't valve have rules around pricing on other stores vs theirs? Genuine question as I'm not sure. I think they be pretty miffed if you under cut their price while they are still offering linked accounts within their service.
AmosUK Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 I dont know, steam is just like platform like ebay or other marketplaces, I can sell stuff cheaper on my website than on ebay with no come back from ebay its just fair competition, ebay has rules in place I cannot contact ebay member telling them of my website so I give them a business card, its up to the customer if they go to that website or not, DCS for example were having a 50% off sale still are but at the time I was buying modules cheaper than on steam, they did have a steam sale later though, linked accounts maybe there is a clause in there maybe.
