What a mess. I think the Mustang pilot must have had a lot of seat time in BF 109s and forgot what he was driving.

Thanks!  Yeah that Spitfire didn't have a clue.  Neither did the last Mustang.

I did the exact same thing to a different P-51 in the sortie immediately before this one, too.

In fairness, that second Mustang was hauling 500 pounders, and really didn't have a chance when you rocked up unexpectedly like frigging Batman.
