JG5_Schuck Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Hey guys, i need some help. I've just upgraded my PC (mobo, RAM and CPU). Got it all plumbed in and everything is running fine............. except Il2... The launcher starts, but as soon as i hit 'PLAY', i get an 'IL2 Not responding' message.. I've tried the launcher, Il2 aplication and Restarter in the Game folder........but to now avail.. I've even tried re installing the game... just the same... Any help gratefully received..

Please give us your computer specs for the RAM, Mobo, CPU, Graphics card, and hard drive if you can. I assume since you swapped out your whole motherboard and CPU that you did a full reinstall of windows. What version of windows are you on? I would check the Windows Event Viewer. It will show error codes that pop up whenever you try and do things and they encounter an erro. It sometimes even tells you if there is a file missing. Considering this happened just after an upgrade, it could be that your windows install has a file missing or corrupted that it needs to launch Il-2. I had to try and fix a computer last week that wouldn't launch just one program, and it turned out that a bad sector on the hard drive had corrupted .dll files it needed to launch.

Specs: Asus RoG Maximus XII Formula, I7 10700k, Kingston Hyper X Predator 4266Mhz DDR4, I didn't change the SSD's, just swapped them over and located them in the BIOS for booting. So no fresh install. I've had no other errors, and everything else is working ok? The GPU and sound card are swapped over as well, and they work fine. Windows 10 64 bit version 1909..
DrKarrot Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Typically, you want a fresh Windows install when changing over mobo/CPU. This has gotten better in newer versions of Windows (8, 10) but it is still a good practice. When you say "everything is running fine............. except Il2" does this include other 3d applications (games, etc) or just basic web browsing or other 2d tasks? Have you made sure to uninstall old chipset drivers, install new ones, all of that? That is often a pain, and why a fresh Windows install is the easiest approach. 1

When you say you have no other errors Have you checked the Windows Event Viewer for errors? Like I said above, sometimes the computer seems to be functioning properly but there are corrupted or missing files that fail silently in the background. With a big hardware swap like that it could be a windows issue. What I would do is attempt to launch the game, note the time you did so, then go to the event viewer and look to see if there are any errors showing up around that time. If a program is not launching correctly there is usually a logged event with an error code.
JG5_Schuck Posted June 26, 2020 Author Posted June 26, 2020 As far as i can see, i've tried other games, and they're running fine. Even all the applications, soundcard/graphics software, literally the only thing not working is Il2. I installed the chipset drivers that came on the disc, then updated them via the ASUS website/download (so they are all the latest). I will try the Event viewer as you said, and see if it flags anything. I just really don't fancy the fresh windows install route, but if that what it takes!!
ColoniaLibre Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I found a thread in the forum with an issue that sounds similar to yours. The issue was caused by audio driver problems and the error was logged in the windows event viewer. That could be a little help for you, if you will find the same error message in your event viewer.
JG5_Schuck Posted June 27, 2020 Author Posted June 27, 2020 Thanks for the help guys..... I did a full windows install on a formatted SSD......... and the game now launches.. It did how ever swap all my devices around, Joypad1 is now joypad4, joypad3 is now joypad7 etc!!! A real pain to have to put all my key binds back in along with throttle settings, but a small price to pay. Its odd that you mention sound... because if i mute the sound in flight i get a noise like a hard drive working (!) Its worse when i move my head with TiR. And it seems to co-inside with the HHD light flickering? Is this a shielding issue? I didn't get it before, but i have a new power supply (Superflower) and the SSD mountings are right above it? Anyway, the game is working, so thankyou for your assistance.
jollyjack Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 (edited) Use JoyID to change the ID numbers. Remove not used USB devices with USBdeview. Disable unused audio devices in Device Manager (uninstalling doesn't work, windows puts them back). Edited June 30, 2020 by jollyjack
