Cognac Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I'm looking in to a new gaming computer, and am thinking of going with a laptop. I think I'm want to go with the ASUS ROG GS750JX. Is anyone running this rig? If so, how does IL2-BOS run for you so far? Otherwise, can someone with some knowledge in hardware estimate how the game will run on such a machine? Here are the specs: Processor Intel Core i7-4700HQ 2.4GHz Standard Memory 16GB Memory Expansion 32GB Hard Drive 750GB Optical Drive Blu-Ray-Enabled DVD+/-RW/CD-RW Display Size 17.3" Display Technology FHD EWV LED Backlight/Full HD 3D(1920x1080) Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX770M 3GB GDDR5 Thanks for your time.
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 S! By the looks of the specs it should run BoS just fine.
LLv44_Mprhead Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 It will run BoS. That said I would seriously think about getting a desktop if I were you. See I have ASUS gaming laptop myself, G53S, bought 2 and half years ago, and it got really old really fast... If for some reason you have to go for laptop, I would consider buying something with GTX870M (or 880M) instead. Cognac Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks for the feedback gents. JG51mprhead: I get where you're coming from vis-a-vis a desktop versus a laptop. My line of thinking in favour of a laptop is that I travel quite a bit, and like to game while I'm on the road. You pointed out that your ROG machine got "really old, really fast". This, I also predicted, but when you say that, do you mean that it aged more so than any other computer does? By that I mean, all computers are considered obsolete within 6 months of their leaving the assembly line; is the ROG any worse? Thanks for the article. I will definitely take that information into consideration. Perhaps I'll be able to upgrade the card when I buy. I don't plan on buying for another 4-5 months.
LLv44_Mprhead Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I don't think that ROG is any worse than any other laptop. What I meant is that because of the lower performance of mobile GPU (and CPU) compared to desktop computer, it "got old" much faster than any desktop would have done. At the time of purchase I didn't quite realize how big the difference between mobile GTX560 and desktop GTX560 was and how it would impact. Like with BoS now, desktop 560 is way above minumum requirement but mobile doesn't quite cut it.
