Atlantia39 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Looking at a new PC build/rig. How will the game perform(looking at 60fps or better)... Stats: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x 3.9Ghz 8-Core Processor Asus TUF B450-Plus Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard Kingston HyperX Fury RGP 16GB(2x8Gb) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory EVGA GeForce RTS 2060 6GB KO Ultra Gaming Video Card Would this give me the Performance/Quality I seek?
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 What display resolution do you plan to use? At 2560x1440 and below, this will basically perform flawlessly at very high graphics settings. At 4K, I'd suggest a stronger GPU. If you want to maximize value, the Ryzen 7 3800 isn't necessarily the best option for a gaming rig.
Jaws2002 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 At 2560x1440 should do just fine. If you play, or plan to play DCS, I'd suggest 32GB of ram and try to overclock the ram to 3600MHz. That's the sweet spot for second gen Ryzen. About the CPU, the R7 3800x is a solid performer. You could get the cheaper 3700x, (around $40 cheaper), but the 3800x has higher stock clock, higher boost and higher TDP . Both are good performers. I'm not sure this old game engine can make much of a difference between the two. I had a 3600x for about a month before I got the 3950x and I got, maybe four extra frames per second by going to the 16 core cpu. In other games there was a bit higher difference and in multi threading tasks, they are worlds apart.

I just bought a 3700x. I considered the 3800X, but given that it costs more, performs only incrementally better (2 or 3%), and draws more power (105W vs. 65W) and therefore gives off more heat, I went with the 3700X. I might be wrong, but if Ryzen CPUs throttle when hot, and the 3800X runs hotter than the 3700X but has the same cooler as the 3700X, then you had better have a well ventilated case or you might end up loosing those 2 or 3% you paid for. My system will close to yours, a 3700X and a 2060 Super. Right now it's an i5-6500 and a 2060 Super and it runs IL2 very well. With a 3700X it can only get better.
Atlantia39 Posted June 24, 2020 Author Posted June 24, 2020 I"m not gonna go super huge on the resolution. Gonna stick with 1920x1080. OK...Sounds good i'm gonna go with this build/setup. Thanks and Cheers!
Bernard_IV Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Intel setups clock a bit higher currently and are preferred for most games. This will work fine though.
