Question regarding the game UI

Before raising any question I want to firstly say that I'm in no hush and I'm not in a position to be picky. I really respect what TF is doing now and I reaaally can't wait to paly the Tobruk Expansion!

OK now here's the question.

Will there be any improvement planned for the game UI? As an old IL-2 1946 player I think it works just fine, but obviously it lags behind when comparing to later games like IL-2 GB.

Also the background image sometimes interferes me when reading text...

Obviously the Cliffs UI is horrible, but was not surprising as the IL-2 series (until GB) always had a very rudimentary and basic interface.  Cliffs seemed to be even more rough draft/thrown together though.

The background images can look nice, though that is a very dated/game "mod" way of doing things.  It's been pointed out before that (depending on the background image) it causes text to blend in and obscures menu options.  I haven't seen any response from TF on this issue or doing anything with the UI at all.

We are simplifying the UI to make programming controls easier.

We will also provide an install/setup guide and manuals for aircraft.

I hope we continue to have the option to map different types of axes/switches separately to each control that had it in real life. For example flaps: instead of up/down, a lot of planes had 3 position, take-off, landing and normal flight and engines have all radiators, superchargers etc able to mapped to different controls for left/right engine.

:salute:

Thank you for responding. I'm glad to hear that you guys are making efforts to improve the UI. Thank you for your effort!

Will the control setup support more than 32 or so buttons? ? Today's peripherals have far more switches, buttons, axis and rotaries than back in early 2000. Would reduce the need to use of 3rd party programs like Joystick Gremlin etc. One of the best, if not the best, interface to program controls is in DCS at the moment.

I just reinstall the COD Blitz after long time not playing...

Recently I play more on Il2 GB....

And I just refresh my self why - the UI is terrible.... Setting up controls, choosing practice mission your plane and opponent - o Budda, this really sucks...

I know that once you set up everything you will not try to change it that often.... But this UI is horrifying...

Well maybe your system is running Blitz better than mine. Not only does Blitz vacillate when I try to assign buttons on my controllers but also it cannot decide whether to let me start stock quick missions. Several times yesterday my monitor went into sleep mode waiting for loading screens to advance. Several times also my screen went blank upon mission start and by the time I entered the mission the on screen text informed me that I had already been shot down. This after verifying my Steam install files. Ymmv.

Setting up a Thrustmaster set is also not simple, but i found that duplicating keyfunctions and re-pointing those duplicates to joystick buttons work better than changing existing ones.

I have several custom controllers and I've adopted the same tactic.

that seems odd, never had any problems with mine since they altered how it designates the controllers. Does it vacillate if you try to asign them to the keyboard as well? If keyboard assigns ok it maybe how it sees your controllers and buttons. But I use the saitek s/w to set hotas anyway with no probs and have a self built controller and everything works a treat for me, sorry you are fighting problems with it. Also no problem with the stock missions running from my end either - this with a pretty old system (phenom965 processor and 8G of ddr3 memory) although graphics is newer. I am running from a dedicated SSD and different one to the system drive still with win7 though.

I also use an ssd for games. Win 10 though. Blitz eventually accepts the chosen controller assignments. I guess I just need to decipher the tap dance required.

Try setting Launcher64.exe to use Windows 7 compatability, resolved quite a few issues for me. Also Steam overlay off and AV to ignore Cliffs folders.

I was using Win10 in Win7 compatibility mode, Steam Overlay: Off & AV set to ignore Blitz folders. That kinda/sorta worked until I updated to Nvidia 451.67 or whatever. Then the launcher crashes became non-stop. Since then I have turned the "Epilepsy Filter" on and am now able to run Blitz again. Another oddity is that the launcher will crash if I attempt to run an FMB-edited single mission at startup, whereas if I first run a stock QM I then seem to be able to run my FMB-edited missions without a launcher crash thereafter. It is unfortunate that hoop jumping is required to get Blitz to run. Other games seem impervious to graphics driver updates and continue to run without complaint. This is one reason I have a "wait and see" attitude toward DW. Reading through TFS responses on UI updates it seems like they have given up on any major game reliability rework and have gone with more "stuff" to play with. That bodes ill for Blitz "naive" DW buyers unless I have a very peculiar game rig or am just major unlucky.

Do you run the game in Full Screen, windowed or pseudo(in game setting)? I run fullscreen and have also disabled full screen optimisations for the exe.

I am currently running Blitz in "Pseudo" mode. Full screen "optimizations" is new to me. How is that done?

Right Click the game exe, go to properties and under compatability tab you find it.

Thanks. I've now disabled "Full Screen Optimizations" as well and am able to run Blitz in "Full Screen" mode now. I have no idea whether disabling optimizations is what allows that but who cares. I now go through a ritual of opening the loadout screen before starting each mission even though I do not make any changes to the loadout. I click "OK" and then start the mission. It's a shame to feel the need to engage in such rituals when you're not sure whether they have an effect, but at least for the time being the launcher isn't crashing mid-mission.
