Difference between High/Ultra shaddows?

Anyone here who uses Ultra shaddows in the setting? Tbh, I cant see any noticeable difference between the two.

I use Ultra shadows. Whilst I really can not put a finger on the difference, I do like them as I seem to get a nicer overall effect with them on Ultra.

Ultra shadows are sharper, high shadows are blurrier.

This. You can notice that the shadow of a plane can be seen sharply from higher altitude.

The difference between ultra and high shadows is not that prominent - except as for the performance. Shadows are a massive FPS killer.

With high shadows settings you can clearly discern your opponent pursuing you when dogfighting at low altitude, so to me ultra shadows
belongs to the chapter of "eye candy". So it's up to your gusto and your system abilities.

Good rule of thumb with these settings (clouds, shadows, draw distance etc) is if the difference between a higher and lower setting isn’t immediately apparent or doesn’t strike you - use the lower setting.

In other words if you have to ask, stick with the more moderate setting.

Shadow setting is one of the highest fps influencing settings  (you can find specifics in the Remagen bench-marking thread) - definitely lower it if you are not seeing much difference visually as your FPS will greatly benefit (I believe that it is "medium" that is the sweet spot) -- mind you, that may not be the case anymore with the change to differed rendering (?) , but it was certainly proven with the former rendering.

Thank you, this answered my question. So it´s only the higher resolution in Ultra, compared to the hig settings.

Shocking news! "Playing with higher settings can reduce the performance" ?

Some settings on ultra or high do not harm much, some others like mirrors and shadows definitely do, even on high-end GPUs.

Ultra setting mainly affects distance of the shadow effect, as shadows will render at a larger range. It is very useful for spotting approaching aircraft up until quite some altitude (1k?).
