Mibo Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Hi, 1.Have cliff of Dover non steam but cannot find how to play it in VR with Oculus Rift S. Can someone please tell me if it is vr ready and how to configure it? 2. Same question for Steam VR . I open Steam, click on Il-2 Sturmovik:Cliffs of Dover the green Play button, but nothing happens. In VR headsets it notifies me that I front have any VR application yet. PLEASE tell me what to do.
[CPT]Crunch Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Cliff's of Dover was never VR compatible, only Great Battles is. It may be converted in the future if any of us live that long.
spitfirejoe Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 (edited) CLOD might be a good game, even it is older. For me personally I buy ONLY stuff which works in VR with good performance. So "NO VR.... NO BUY", that easy. CLOD has no VR mode, so I don´t buy it. IL-2 Great Battles works very well in VR, that´s why I use it and love it. I also tested DCS in VR and I have had a really very bad performance with it, that is the reason why I stopped using or even trying DCS again. Edited June 17, 2020 by spitfirejoe 1
Dutch2 Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 (edited) Check the ATAG forum there is a guy who does run it. https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28472 and mudspike but you need VorpX. https://www.vorpx.com/ Edited June 17, 2020 by Dutch2

I know somebody from CloD dev team and he is confirmed that after the new patch they will implement vr too. More and more people ask for it. But they have limited resources so we may have to wait years unfortunately...
WB_jokkr Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 While I don't fly it anymore I still own it and will buy ungrades. They need the support to move forward. It's a really good game and the North Africa campaign sounds epic. 1 1

Seems like an extremely problematic workaround. Maybe there's a vid of a full mission flown in VorpX somewhere(?)

Then just do an registration on both forums and ask the TS, we all as non VorpX/Clod users can only guess.

Why would I accept an assignment to spend my own time researching an application that seems problematic on its face? 1
apollon01 Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 VorpX is not problematic. Unfortunately, many people just do not read how to use it and then hate on various fora. I am a happy vorpX user and have to say it does magic to many games ? As for CloD: vorpX will wrap the image into the HMD and via Opentrack you can have reasonable head tracking too. BUT to my experience you will not get 3D effect. So both eyes get the same image. You can actually force z-buffer 3D effect in CloD via reshade/depth3d/VirtualDesktop combo or Helixvision but with many artefacts and million other issues. Not worth the time wasted, if you ask me. I do hope TF will implement native VR into CloD as I think the title just screams for it ?

TY for having done my assignment for me :-) I fired up Blitz yesterday just to refresh my memory of the Blitz Beaufighter. Looking around the cockpit I wondered how much of it is VR ready. I next started Il-2 GB and set up a QMB with me flying an He111. I had never flown any of the Axis bombers in the sim before as Axis AC are not my preference. Nonetheless the difference is striking. While problems spotting distant targets in VR is an ever present topic the VR advantage in depth perception is less frequently mentioned. What that means to me is that the VR cockpit and AC exterior as seen from the cockpit seems massively better detailed than the same AC as it appears on a 1440p monitor. The result is that the Beaufighter cockpit as viewed on my monitor looks a bit "funky" by comparison. As more and more folks experience VR in flight sims there will be less and less tolerance for CFS's that do not offer a VR option. Forced monitor use may become an immersion breaker for many users. That difference may be irrelevant for online competition so competitors might even be hostile to VR. For me now Blitz makes me feel like I am stepping back in time. Eventually retro "cool" is just "retro".
critical_mach Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 I don’t think I have ever launched Blitz due mainly to lack of VR (played the original CloD back in the day, my computer could barely run it) but I bought the Desert Wings expansion specifically because I heard of their intentions of adding VR, and I wanted to help in what meager way I could. Blitz VR has an appeal to me because it should be a decent looking sim that can easily be maxed out with good performance in VR. Great Battles is prettier, sure, and the soft body damage that allows wings and fuselages to bend before they break is flashy, but my 1080ti machine struggles to push steady frame rates at higher settings. having something that looks good in a different way, but runs flawlessly is an interesting proposition to me.
dburne Posted January 25, 2021 Posted January 25, 2021 Yeah I might revisit Blitz should they ever have VR support. That would be the only way I would though. 1
Dutch2 Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 For the Clod VR users, info can be found here at the Clod section and 100% sure more on the ATAG forum. Do not forget, please keep on to publish your VR experience for Clod.
critical_mach Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I will support them by buying anything they offer for Blitz, but I can’t fly on a flat screen after trying VR. Having a lower fidelity, but still gorgeous sim that can really peg the frame rates would/will be awesome! Hope they can get it converted!
