I can't see s***

Anybody else like me, got a big ass monitor but plays w/o VR, resolution is pretty low, I can see planes but I can't make out what they are...? I can use the camera move in function but I play with joystick in right hand and I would need a 3rd hand to use the mouse and it's just too awkward...so while I love to play multiplayer, the first clue I have that it's an enemy a/c is when it saddles up behind and knocks me right out of the sky...

I wish you could get a tiny icon, either red/blue when the a/c gets w/i the normal distance that a pilot would be able to identify an a/c in real life, cause with a monitor, I do not have 20/20 vision.

You need TrackIR or another head tracking device. Much easier than grow a 3rd hand ?

Alternatively there are servers with enabled icons.

Couldnt you just use hat switch joystick to look around insted mouse, this is how people who dont have some head tracking device look around. High AA settings will help you ID stuff but then you aint gona be able to spot stuff untill its to late lol

Icons in this game are only full on or off, they lack costumasation options previous Il-2 games had, so your option is join servers that have them on, also as game dont show you what realisam settings servers have like other il-2 games could, look for servers with normal in name...

I tried playing without TrackIR last night, mainly because I'd forgotten to enable it prior to launching the game. Nope, not doing that again, too much like hard work ?

if u don't have VR or head tracking i recommend playing with mouse in ur left hand for view and joystick in ur right hand. Throttle in mouse wheel. I mean what u guys do with your left hand if u dont have a mouse there? do u prefer throttle over smooth viewing experience?

Try this profile. I never managed doing a profile right TrackIR and then I used this. Pooff.. all went perfect, suddenly head movement was almost perfect.

I'd love to get VR but..cost. I've flown flight sims for years so am very used to the snapviews and I like to keep my left hand on the throttle...it's just too awkward. Oh well, I just flew the first mission in Havoc over the Kuban and it was awesome so I'll just do single player unless I feel suicidal.

That's actually a really fun mission. I enjoyed that campaign a lot. And as for VR, I wear glasses, I don't think I'd be too comfortable for long periods, plus I'd probably puke all over myself eventually.

I used that too, which is good but Requiem's newest profile is even better

For about a moth i have TrackHat (clip), the only time i had a VR set on was with some demo game at my son in law's place.

I can't see me using it with IL2, as you need to see the keyboard at times ... The origila trackhat software is OK, but Opentrack has more tuning options.

Yeah, I switch between passive and active TrackIR, even though I use pretty much nothing but my hotas, and rarely use the keyboard, I still like the fact that I can see my surroundings, is it less immersive? Mostly likely, but it suits me.

I don't have track IR and use a hat switch on the joystick to move my pilots head and I bound the twist on it to zoom as I don't need it for rudder that seems to help.

To each their own, if that's what you feel comfortable with, go for it. Personally, I'm not that dexterous and quick at the same time.

Not to steer this as a VR discussion but it's actually quite possible to adapt to using the keyboard without looking at it.   Particularly for the most common key bindings that you may not already have mapped to your controllers.

I use this guy as my inspiration....

There are TrackIR solutions at many prices with advantages and disadvantages, of course. I use DelanClip and I'm happy with it. People I know who have different solutions are also happy. So you have plenty to choose from.

Before I bought it I used the mouse. And yeah, when in a dogfight reducing throttle was hard. But weirdly enough, I still grab the mouse continuously just for zoom and unzoom with the wheel.

I use a scroll wheel on my x52 Pro throttle, so I also use hacks.

I use the "throttle" on the base of the VKB stick for magnification. My other option was the now unused "hat", but the zoom isn't fast enough on the hat like it is with an axis. I try not to zoom in much, though, as it screws up my SA big time.

Yeah, I keep my pov around 60 ish in cockpit, 80 ish external. I only zoom when I'm trying to identify what I'm about to get fragged by.
