any specialized night fighter units in PWCG?

Would love to fly a night Bf-110 campaign, but I'm not sure what date to start, doing a bit of clicking through 1943 with fighter selected doesn't seem to turn one up. Always been rather disappointing that the 110 squadron (labeled as night fighters) doesn't actually fly any night missions it seems in vanilla career.

Not what you are thinking of.  The only dedicated night unit in PWCG is the night witches.  Others have a possibility of flying a night mission but are not dedicated to night missions.  

 

Adding a nighttime 110 unit would not be too difficult given advances in PWCG.  The pieces are there.  It would still be the daytime variant flying at night.  The missions would be a combination of ground attack and intercept.

I'd be glad to see that, I've been having great fun with the "nightfighters over Kuban" scripted career, so being able to fly similar types of night point defense or strikes would be great fun.
