Tycoon Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 (edited) I first saw this on dogfights when I was a kid and thought it was pretty cool. Since then it's been copied by several movies. I found out a while ago this actually pre-dates dogfights in the movie Stealth. This move seems to almost be a running gag in Hollywood, anyways for all the movie enthusiasts out there is there any other time this has been used in movies? Edited June 16, 2020 by Tycoon 1
Chief_Mouser Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 He actually claims that this was possible??? ?
Raven109 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 (edited) Might be a case of the pilot saying something, and the producer thinking that it was too boring, and so he spiced it up. Eventually, the executives thought that the entire history channel needs some spicing up and here we are with pawn shop, and other spicy historical stuff... Good case of reality is not exciting enough for TV, perhaps? Edited June 16, 2020 by Raven109

Tycoon Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Guys just to clarify I know the move isn't possible, was just wondering if anyone knew of this move being used in any other movies.

What really sucks is that the story of Tuskegee Airmen was good enough to stand on its own without all of that Hollywood shit. 3

Lusekofte Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 There is a described maneouver going like that but in a more aerodynamical possible way. It was also badly represented in tuskagee movie. I never seen it but had it described in a book and Flypast magazine. In the book it was described as a good maneouver as long as the pilot chasing you did not know about it or there where two or more of them. Because you are a sitting duck for a while doing it. And you loose speed

Jason_Williams Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 The comments by the actual pilot sounds more like a simple deflection shot, which we virtual aces do all day every day piece of cake! Jason
Bremspropeller Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 So somebody actually does have the moves like Jagger...
Sokol1 Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 From ww2aircraft.net Drop tank kill: On March 31, 1944, while flying with the 154th Weather Squadron, 15th AF Lt. Robert P. Zirkle scores a “destroyed” on an ME-109 while flying his P-38. As he described it, “… one of these enemy planes … attacked head on. Noting that the tracers from the ME were passing below me, I raised the nose of my plane to keep above his fire. As the ME approached, I stalled my ship and dropped down so that one of my belly tanks hit him. The enemy plane spun out of sight and I saw a parachute open.” Taken from: https://15thaf.org/154th_Weather_Sqdn/PDFs/The History of the 154th.pdf Claim listed as confirmed, see USAF Historical Study 85 page 427
