Hi.  I'm looking for a server that has a dogfight focus, that has simple eng. management, plane icons,   Is there such a server?  I use to play Il-2 1946 13  years ago. I'd like to take it up again but everything I see on Youtube looks like it's designed for aces with thousands of hours flight time.  I hear guys calling out, "Hey, there's a 109"  or a 190 or whatever and all I see is a pixel. or a bug on his windshield.  I wouldn't last 5 seconds in that environment.  So, I'm looking for something just a little less realistic.   Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

Flying Ass Clowns "dogfight" server.

ideal for beginners finding their feet.

lots of AI air and ground targets.

ensure "mods" mode is checked in settings to be able to find the server.

Less realistic doesn't mean easier - from a survival standpoint at least. I use to see lots of guys roll in to DED_Normal from TAW or KOTA or wherever thinking they would rule and proceed to get their asses shot off by players using a hat switch to look around and a $35.00 stick. A few of the best dog fighters in the sim fly on Normal (be sure)

Actually most of them fly CEM on that server to get the best from their plane...or get shot down constantly.

On Normal there is simply no place to hide and if you want to do bomber or Jabo work you better be ready to die.

So yeah, go fly DED_Normal if you want easy settings.

Something you're going to find out is that guys that dogfight on dogfight servers all day are in a lot of cases much better in a dogfight than the guys on "full real" servers.

He‘ll also find out that he‘s getting much better way faster on these servers as flying seemingly alone for half a hour just to be shot in the back doesn‘t provide much for a learning curve. Especially when the guys you are referring to are beginners like him and the rest is a pack on comms.

As for the OP, you might try the ZOO server. Icons, closely loacted spawn points and bots. It‘s a nice setup.

There really is no easy server unless you go to a training server where an experienced pilot pretends that he's a noob until he decides to shoot you down or let you shoot him down.

I started on Berloga server, it is like "Call of duty" in the air. I had to learn to recognize planes, and stick to one of them for start (i.e. FW-190A3 for easy management). There you die often and repeat. If you learn something every time, then it is ok. If not, you can not enjoy.

Some 3 months later I went on other servers, and it was not so hard any more. Wings of Liberty (WOL) has gps on map - that is nice for start. Take some plane, and go defend your friendly target there.

Also, if you already know some engine management (RPM, radiators/cowls, fuel mixture) you can fly bombers in multiplayer. That is really easy. Big plus is your rear gunner (AI does pretty good job for you), so you do not need to worry about enemy too much.

With more experience you will know where to expect enemy, and what to look.

Youtube is great source of other people experience, just ignore that insane spotting.

Thanks for mentioning Zach, but I think the OP is looking for ww2.

There's always Berloga then. (Again, thank God. Ehm, thanks to donations to be more exact.)

If you done fighting AI and handling your plane then go to Berloga and thrash it out,,,,don't worry about dying because everyone gets smashed in there ....A LOT. Keep at it till you start getting consistent kills. What makes it easy is you just restart and you're back in the pit in seconds like nothing happened.

The other servers like like Wings of Liberty and Combat Box are much like berloga just with ground targets to attack and defend. They also have an average 5-10 min to get to the action(Wings is much closer). If you want to go hard and you have plenty time to dick around then TAW is for the masochists that like it real.

Thank you.  Berloga sounds like the place to go to get my feet wet.  Steep learning curve, though, this sim.   Everytime I feel the urge to try my  luck with human pilots I encounter something  else that makes me hang back for some more practice.

I also think you should try out first server with icons, you learn how to DF mutch faster there, and then go for servers without icons . Visibility in this game is bad so if your not using programs to enhance it or fly in crapy graphic you will be at to big disadvantage there, compared to icons on server.

Berloga is good option but to caotic at times, DED normal is good option like some sugested.

DED_Normal?  Is that the name of a server?

Please explain what "DED normal" is or means.  Is it the name of a particular server?  Also is there a way to tell if a server is setup with easy settings before actually connecting to it, e.g., SEM, icons on, etc., similar to how Hyperlobby does?

Its just short name of servere, full name is:

EU Official 1CGS server Planes and Tanks Normal by DED with SRS server

Like you see there is nothing like in hyperlobby or old il-2 games or even in rof that shows you what settings server have, before or even after you join it, so server host need to place Normal or Expert in name, or if its some costum settings then youll have to check if they place in briefing what settings they use or in forum topic of server. its stupid to not have this like all other games but its what we have so you have to do extra job of fuigering out what settings each server have by doing some dora explora work.
