Is there anyway to play as a commander and give orders for the crew to follow? Last time I played it seemed you had to occupy each crew station when you needed to see an action completed.

Yup, try tilde (~) key (it's tilde since forever it seems).

As a commander in Sherman or su. How do I use periscope? Tried all keys combination

You have to bind these. Pro tip - you don't have to nestle to that periscope, it just moves (unlike in soviet vehicles - you have to nestle to the commanders periscope over there)

So in Sherman, there is no way to change commander view to use the periscope? Sorry if I am asking silly questions

Yep there is no way. You can move your camera (by default) using INS/Home/PgUp/PgDwn etc to see something up/down/whatever through this periscope. It has it's plusses tho
