oneeyeddog Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 brook, I can answer a few of your questions. you can still buy into early access. Clik the 'Buy' tab on the BoS home page. You will get the Fw190 when it becomes available. There are several test servers that you can fly MP on but they are limited in scope but still fun to fly. To play BoS you don't have to deal with Steam. i'm unsure how big the DL is. I can't say if offline play is a no fiss or not as I don't know what that means.
Bearcat Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Offline is OK.. Just remember that at this point the sim is not even 50% done... This is still Early Access.. Like oed said.. if you buy now you will get the 190 when it is available..
pixelshader Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 dl isn't huge, my game file is only 3gig, but judging by the past will probably have to delete it all and re-dl a few more times before release
StarLightSong Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 ...offline play is great with quick missions and plenty of ground locations- airstrips, tanks, trains and bridges, plenty of aircraft detail but not button pushing or resource management as in a true procedural sim like DCS. Great fun, wish I had more time and a lower ping, very quick progress for anyone who has done any programming, ( hah, the old Fortran for me), they are making very good progress given it's not just rise of flight with different "3d Models" 2cents
216th_Peterla Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Trully recommended if you like old stile sims like IL2 Sturmovik.

User error..? To answer your question, no, your IL-2 Sturmovik: BOS will not be connected to a Steam account, though I myself wouldn't mind if it were. 1
Panzerlang Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 To answer your question, no, your IL-2 Sturmovik: BOS will not be connected to a Steam account, though I myself wouldn't mind if it were. What, so it can charge $10/$20 more than 777 would, while telling you it was "cheaper, cos we can pass on the savings to you of there being no physical media!" ? Steam...convenient, check; rip-off, check.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 What, so it can charge $10/$20 more than 777 would, while telling you it was "cheaper, cos we can pass on the savings to you of there being no physical media!" ? Steam...convenient, check; rip-off, check. Cite a reasonable example. Every game on Steam is set to the counterpart retail price (if not at times $5-$10 cheaper than a retail version) I don't think that there was ever a marketing ploy where the even remotely stated that. Bias, check. Conjecture, check.
Panzerlang Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Off the top of my head, and the last one I came across, was Napoleon Total War. It was £5 in the highstreet shop (and had been for ages), around the same on Amazon, but £35 on Steam. All the others I've come across over the last few years have amalgamated in my memory into a general awareness-flag that Steam charges over top-dollar after their founding-promise of "no physical content, we'll pass the savings on to you and offer product at well below highstreet prices!" Plus you have very little to no chance of a refund if the game turns out to be utter gack (which I've always managed to get in a physical shop). Though I have managed to get Steam refunds on two occasions, once by getting the top bloke at Paradox to intervene on my behalf and the other time by citing EU regulations concerning fraudulent description. Steam: very convenient but very very expensive. Napoleon: Total War on Amazon UK: £6.62 with free delivery. That's a hard copy. On Steam: £12.99. Edited May 8, 2014 by II/JG3Siggi 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) S! I buy mostly indie games on Steam, like Prison Architect and so forth. They have given a lot for the moolah invested Edited May 8, 2014 by LLv34_Flanker

Most likely the price of hard copies are discounts on games that don't sell anymore, so shop can get boxes off the stores, while electronic copy is sold at "actual" price as seller does not need ot get rid of copies. Last fall my local Media Markt had a shelf full of DCS A-10C boxes, priced 3$ each - yet price for A10 stays at 40$ in DCS store... Edited May 8, 2014 by Trupobaw 1

One of many many examples I could give... Rise of Flight, if we consider 777 store "retail". Buying Gotha, HP, Dfw.CV and W.12 with all mods, in 777 store - ~40 euros. Buying them all at once or at sale - 20 euros. Buying them from steam (all at once) on ordinary day - 20 euros. Buying them from steam on sale - 5 to 10 euros. Just wait until you see Premium edition Bos for 24$ on steam daily sale... Edited May 9, 2014 by Trupobaw

But a lot of these things aren't taking effect into the game as they should be, but I'm pretty sure once prop pitch is modeled properly and mixture and all these things that most of these planes (primarily russian) need fixing, it is going to be pretty management intensive S!
