I recently purchased a Virpil CM2 throttle, and in IL2 was eager to use the on-throttle encoders for adjusting the P-51 gyro gunsight range and wingspan.  This was no problem in the other sim (which has wonderful controller tools).  But in IL2--I discovered encoders are pretty much useless---not just for the Virpil throttle, but on my DSD button box, too.  Don't really want to use Virpil tools to convert the encoder to an axis, as that would mess up the other sim which knows how to use encoders.

JoyToKey has solved many a controller problem over the years, and it solves this too.  It was not as simple as just mapping the encoder output to a key, though.  It appears IL2 is non-responsive to extremely brief key inputs, like encoder pulses.  JoyToKey needed to translate short pulses into longer key presses.  Here is how I set up JoyToKey to convert encoder input into IL2 key sequences which are effective.

The key is the input hold duration with a repetition of the button inputs of the encoder.  I'm still experimenting with the ideal Input Hold Duration which balances fine movement with one click of the encoder and rapid movement when spinning the encoder.

I post this for the next person looking for a solution.  This ought to work for those wanting to use encoders for trim, flaps, etc.

And . . . JoyToKey is just a wonderful bit of software.
