downedpilot Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 i saw that some of you use flat screen tvs our thay any good for gameng. i have a 24 inch gaming monitor, would a 32inch tv give me the same. thank you
FuriousMeow Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Monitor. TVs work, but they have such low DPI that even AA doesn't matter. I went from a 37" TV to a 30" monitor - the TV could only do 1920x1080, monitor could do 2560x1600 - the res is obviously higher but even running 1920x1200 was a million times better than the 1920x1080 on the TV. There are monitors with input lag and other issues, mine has a strange stutter to it and I can't wait to get a Gsync 27"+ monitor - but the DPI, I could never go back to a TV. 1
unreasonable Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 The only point of a TV instead of a monitor is if you want to buy a really big one. Then you can sit about 5-6 feet away and not notice the pixelization, but still get the feel of a natural field of view at closer to life size. More expensive naturally but still cheaper than running your own Me 109! 1

downedpilot Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 I know someone that uses a 32" TV. Input Lag could be an issue (less so on a flight sim than a twitchy FPS game though) but most decent TVs should have a 'Game mode' which eliminates all post-processing and helps with the delay. Also, I'd be concerned that you'll see the individual pixels as the DPI won't be as high as with a monitor. thank you for help now i no.you cant set on a tv like you can a monitor, unless you pay a fortune for the tv,or a larger monitor. 1
Dakpilot Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Take a screenshot at 1920x1080 res ingame, copy to a usb stick and look at it on a large TV, 99% of flat screen tvs have a usb slot for this. You can then check to see if you think it would be too pixelated at preferred viewing distance. I use a 40" sharp quattron, very low input lag and perfectly adequate picture quality (with good computer/graphics able to run decent AA) at about 3 feet 1920x1080, results will vary depending on the quality of processor in the tv but I could not go back to a smaller screen ever obviously this only compares to monitors with 1920 res Cheers Dakpilot
JG27_Chivas Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 If I were in the market for a new computer screen for gaming it would only buy one with GSync tech. That said I will no longer require a good gaming monitor. I've ordered an Oculus Rift prototype for my gaming needs, and can use almost any old monitor for surfing the internet etc.
