SeaW0lf Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Hello folks, I created this section to share some of the recordings that I made after these years of Flying Circus. These are raw footage, without any external view or music, just my view from the cockpit. I find it more appealing. I’m trying to post the fights in chronological order from the oldest, in January 2020, to the newest, in late March (roughly a three months span), so that you guys can see how we adapted to the physiology changes, which I learned to like it, having fewer blackouts as the weeks went on. There will be about twenty videos. Below I have some disclaimers. 1) All aircraft livery is part of Flying Circus's standard skins. There are no personal skins, so the videos in general will feature anonymous players that were on the server Flying Circus Flugpark (I asked permission from most of them). I did it so to preserve their identity and privacy. But feel free to introduce yourself if you want. I selected the best recordings and dogfights and it was an honor. You have my salute for that. 2) I never recorded my dogfights to study opponents or myself. I think the recording spree started with the invisible plane’s bug in 2019. 3) I’m a diehard lone wolf, so I never used any kind of comms nor did I fly in a squadron. After I became known by the moniker SeaW0lf in Rise of Flight and DCS, I only flew under this banner and I never used any ghost / anonymous profiles. I state my fuel / ammo load at the videos’ description. 4) I installed Rise of Flight in 2010 and flew in multiplayer for the first time in 2013, when I got TrackIR. I was never a good shot and I have pot pedals, so forgive me for that part. My full specs are in my signature. Before that I played in single player the Red Baron series, AoTP and Europe series and MCFS 3. 5) These videos are just my experience. It doesn't mean that I'm doing the right or wrong thing, just what has worked for me these past few years, especially flying the Sopwith Camel with 70, 90, 100 liters of fuel. Near perfect performances are also rare, and the one who makes the least mistakes wins. Overall, I had fun. An interesting note, and quite surprising, is that recently I discovered that my grand-uncle was part of the first observer class of the Brazilian air force flying as a Breguet 14A2 observer in 1921, a detachment that he came to command and which also operated the Spad VII. During World War II, he commanded a couple Air Zones respectively in Brazil, which then patrolled the South Atlantic with, among other planes, the PBY Catalina, a plane that he was very familiar with. He retired already as an Air Marshal. I don't remember meeting him as a child, although I must have, since he was my grandfather older brother. I never would have guessed! I hope you guys enjoy these fights as much as I did. I just ask to keep the discussion positive and be cordial, as these are scenes that involve real players and we need to respect the effort that we all have made over the years both in victory and defeat. As a side note, I always had a special place in my heart for these planes and the pilots who flew them, so keep it up guys! Salute everyone, it was fun! SeaW0lf. NO.20_W_M_Thomson Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Nice, Guess your favorite is the Camel, took it out last night and holy crap. I forgot how unforgiving that thing is. The blackouts are a bit much compared to the Bristol. But at least I didn't lose all my controls on the first burst of bullets. Good flying mate. You can be my wing man anytime. joke, top gun thing.

You can be my wing man anytime. joke, top gun thing. thanks! It took a while for me to get used to Camel, because the visibility is very poor compared to Dr.I. But at the moment she is fun and she took up a space in my heart that she didn't have before, even in ROF. As for blackouts, you can throttle back in turns and maneuvers to avoid high Gs, because it retains a lot of energy at sea level and you won’t get bogged down. It looks a bit like the Sopwith Pup. You can't fly full throttle unless you mix some vertical maneuvers. When I came back from a month flying the Dr.I, I took the Camel and felt like a beginner. I thought, "Good Lord, it will take me a couple months to relearn everything again". Just in sustained turns that it is tricky to throttle back, because then you can’t sustain the turn. I imagine you can approach her as a [powerful] race car in Monaco. Throttle, blip-switch and turn management all the time. It sounds more realistic as well, and it adds to the fun. Cheers! I always thought and heard that the DR1 had the worst visibility and the Camel was far superior in that aspect.

I always thought and heard that the DR1 had the worst visibility and the Camel was far superior in that aspect. At least for me, the Camel covers your head, so you get tunnel vision (hence the cutout mod). You are also in between wings, so the overal vision is poor. Which is also a hindrance in dogfights. The Dr.I, with stacked wings going forward, cleared from your head, gives you an excellent overall vision. Not as good looking forward, but I consider a better trade off.
No.23_Triggers Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) Awesome! My fave is "against all odds" I think I was in the middle of that big fur ball - I distinctly remember a very similar scrap and seeing two D.VIIs falling in flames within seconds of each other....and spotting a certain sky blue Camel in amongst the excitement Ended up cooking another D.VII down low before high-tailing it home! Ah, wasn't the old DM such fun? Edited June 18, 2020 by US93_Larner 1

SeaW0lf Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 (edited) Just to let you guys know that I uploaded the video ‘Uninvited Guests!’ again, as I discovered that there was a section of a couple seconds with icons at the beginning (to indicate they were enemies, since I thought they were Spads). The original intention was to upload the raw version, with no icons. In fact, when I saw that section with icons, it felt cringy. It completely departs from the other videos. Anyways, the original version with no icons is now in place. In the Original Post as well! _______ Edited June 29, 2020 by SeaW0lf
SeaW0lf Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 So folks, when I posted the first 20 videos, I chose a specific period in between the physiology update of October 2019 and before the damage model update of April 2020. It was a period that I consider the best in Il-2 Flying Circus, when we learned to deal with G-locs, which added another layer of complexity to the fights, and we still had the original damage model. But in the past few weeks I have been testing Il-2 Flying Circus in single player and I realized the blackouts are not that frequent and I like the fatigue effect. It is not possible for me to share an opinion formed only by flying in single player, but the impression is that the new physiology has taken a correct course. Yes, I did some reading on the developer diary. What does this have to do with the videos? I happen to have a few videos from early 2019, both from the classic Old Geezers server and the Flugpark days on the Kuban Map. Vintage stuff for who was there, when we didn’t even had the Arras map. I have just a couple of them, since recording was not a thing for me back then. Sometimes I would just hit record after the merge. Anyway, as the current physiology seems to not be at the opposite end if we compare it to the beginning of FC, just more complex, these videos got some borrowed time. They are my little personal record of what things were like at Flying Circus in its inception, still flying in Russia over snowy fields and making silly mistakes! Yup, I smacked my head a few times reviewing them. Disclaimers: 1 - As the videos are old and casually recorded, I do not remember any of the players who participated in the fights, so I can’t ask for permission. But there are no personal skins and, as usual, you have my salute for that. 2 – Video quality is not that great because they were made with the Windows app. OBS was giving me lots of stutter and I didn’t know about ShadowPlay, which is what I use nowadays. 3 - The two servers where the fights took place were furball ones, so the fuels loads were accordingly, generally in between 20 and 35%, especially at Flugpark, which had a big Kuban map. But I flew with full ammo. 4 - I don't have these tracks anymore, and they would not play in Il-2 anyways, so the video thumbnails were fabricated in the Mission Editor with some different skins due to aesthetics alone, although I already had my blue Camel. Video descriptions are on YouTube.Il-2 Flying Circus – Old Geezers / Lapino Winter – Defensive Flying and Sweeping. Il-2 Flying Circus – Old Geezers / Lapino Winter – Good Team Work. Il-2 Flying Circus – Flugpark / Kuban Map – Good Scrap at Kerch Strait. Salute! SeaW0lf. 1
