Is it possible to create custom airfields?

Mod work on this forum is amazing and my question is simply; Is it possible to mod or customise airfeilds/airfiled layouts?

I would like to try and recreate lesina in Italy and being able to draw the revetment pattern onto the map and also add PSP (textures) would be really useful. Is it possible?

Cheers, MP

It seems like you can change surface textures on the map using the editor but i have not seen the results first hand.

I recently saw someone redoing part of Germany as a personal project because tyry lived in that area.

Thanks for the reply. I am just wondering if it's a generic pattern that can be replaced (like map reworks) or if specific areas like airfields could be created like this?

Yes, you can put areas such as runways or taxiways on the map. In the editor, press Surface Edit -> Enable Editing. Now in one of the icon bars a few greyed-out icons will become available; hover over them to reveal the tooltips "Create decal", "Create tape" and "Create shape". You can use these to respectively put a rectangular texture somewhere (e.g. a runway), a texture along a path (e.g. a road or taxiway) or some other polygonal shape.

You can open any of the maps in the editor to have a look at how the Devs themselves did it. The attached screenshot shows "Lapino" airfield on the eponymous map.

Editing or creating airfields is possible.

mainly by copying and pasting one of the actual airfield from another part of the map to the place you want it.

However, you will need to find a suitable place without any slope, any forrest, any nothing to interfere with it. If the terrain is not perfectly flat, you will never be able to put a plane on it without having it be under the runway. Means this plane will never be able to take off.

Sad but true, that the bad side of the editor.

Bugger. Lesina was on an uphill slope :(

Looks like I will have to have a play and see what can be done :)

Yep, there's a heights edit function that does not work.

BTW this would be a nice one for Kuban:

Technically, the height edit function does work, you're just not allowed to load the edited maps into IL2 (it'll give an error message of not having purchased that map when you try to load a mission).

You can have roads/runways/whatever that follows the terrain perfectly. It just needs to be a decal or object ,not the "tape" surfline, and have "terrain decal" and "split by terrain" selected. It might also need to be a low layer.

Even with mods on?

Could I extend the no-mans-land as well, or even and a generic greyish-texture to the ruhrarea this way?

It is possible to paint textures on the map, so this does include No-man's land and the Ruhrgebiet.

Not sure, but I think it will require mods on.

Could live with that. The representation of both areas is quite disapointing.
