Bearcat Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 WT is a good entry gateway to simming.... but in the end it is products like BoS, CoD, and even IL2 .. that will truly define what a sim is.. http://youtu.be/r-_q0RQtku4 I did not mention DCS WWII because it is not here yet.
SeriousFox Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 After playing BoS for a while, can't play WT anymore...
johncage Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 calling it a gateway to simming is like calling call of duty a gateway to tactical shooters. in reality, it's two distinct groups with very little crossover. as for the video, probably the most glaring example of everything wrong with pseudo-sims. piss poor flight dynamics, such that using a joystick actually puts you at a disadvantage. ballistics are arcade. i mean scoring kill shots like you're using a sniper rifle.
siipperi Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 People like "competitive"-gaming and sims aren't that. You need certain balance if you do that kind of gaming and WT appeals to people who like that kind of stuff more than more realistic flight sims. Flight sims aren't for everyone but imo WT offers so much more for people who like flying but not simulation flying like games such as Hawx. I must say I enjoyed quite a bit casual WT game mode, nice shooting with fast rounds. P.s. last time I checked DCS was out.
siipperi Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 DCS WW2? I think you will have to wait a "bit" for that. -World
Rivet Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) People like "competitive"-gaming and sims aren't that. They are when leaderboards are implemented. Edited May 6, 2014 by Rivet
Bando Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 -World I know, was just teasing. The OP does say DCS WWII btw. And at Bongo: You're right. I have high hopes that this time Luthier will nail it and we'll get some study sim. I'm all for it. Understand the arguments of Loft though and we'll have to make due. So far I'm playing and enjoying most sims out there, with a few more in the pipeline. No complaints here.

They are gateways .. especially to a person who never played a TS or a FS before.. Even if it is not a true sim.. Heck my gateway to TS was Golden Eye on the Nintendo .. Just because it doesn't meet the requierments of a true sim does not mean that it is not something that can pique the interest of the uninitiated.. which is what a gateway product does..
