Blitzen Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 Are there any missions centered around the newest map...something Battle of the Bulge like??
jollyjack Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 I understood that the Rheinland map cannot handle it. Most crucial roads and towns etc are simply missing. Pity alas, as the western Europe WW2 events would interest me more. But I know IL2 is basically a Russian game though. Though the historic parts and mission editor already there in IL2 makes it so much more interesting than other sim-shooters. 1
Thad Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 To be fair to the developers... Great Battles is primarily a flight simulation set in WWII. As such, very detailed ground terrain isn't normally needed. With the introduction of Tank Crew the flight simulation map simply doesn't give us tankers the detail on the ground required. That's why TC shipped with its' own special more detailed map. 1
352ndOscar Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 We’ve (internal 352nd) been doing a Market Garden mission with air/ground action on the Rhineland map for weeks now without a problem. Some objects have been added to the mission to lend an air of believability. So it is possible. 2
Thad Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) Of course it is... ALL of the simulations maps can have tanks used upon them. That is not the point really. The Prokkhorovka map has a much better and detailed height map area for ground combat use. I had desire to put together some Tank Crew missions based upon historical locations in books I have purchased concerning Patton's armored forces moving to relieve Bastogne. During said research, I noted many towns and villages where battles took place. Towns- Martelange, Flatzbourhof (hamlet), Holtz, Wolwelange, Bigonville, Burnon, Menufontaine, Chaumont, Remoiville, Nives, Cobreville, Hollange The list is not complete. None of them are represented upon the Rheinland map. Obviously, that limits what can be done to recreate the historically based tank battles. Most disappointing. ☹️ Edited July 9, 2020 by Thad
SCG_Neun Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) Yeah, when I lined up the Aachen area...I had to simulate a lot of missing towns, etc.... Those towns were fairly close together and I guess it's just too much to render a playable map, not sure. Edited July 9, 2020 by SCG_Neun
Thad Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Perhaps if the developer gods dain is so.... we might get a Prokhorovka type map that covers the Battle Of The Bulge area. Demi-gods not gods. 2
Hamaha15 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 ...and a detailed portion of the Normandy map. The fighting between the hedgerows from Villers-Bocage to Falaise may be more challenging for tank crews than for aviators. 1 3

Very few know how to do it, but well, I would! ! Create, now there's also the Churchill it's the stug to be used with or without snow, at night or in the morning as in the afternoon, that's fine, but the countryside is beautiful, perhaps starting with the panzer 3 and slowly getting up to the panther or the tiger, it depends, a crescendo in power and difficulty would be nice like a career!! I finally got the Kuban and bodenplatte maps and I sincerely hope to be able to use them for missions but even better German and allied campaigns!! Hello and thanks
