spitfirejoe Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Hello guys, I am really desperate. I use a THRUSTMASTER Warthog HOTAS System ( Joystick and Thottle ) and I am going mad with this TARGET Software. I did make a key mapping profile with the TARGET GUI Software for IL-2 and most of the time it does NOT work ( sometimes it does, MOSTLY NOT ). Inside the TARGET Software is an "Event Tester" button, there you can check if your custom made profile works and that your buttons and switches of the WARTHOG Controllers do trigger the correct key mapping commands. Because in Game sometimes all the controlls are mixed up, for instance I want to toggle Altimeter Setting it does not work but another Action is triggered and so on. Many Buttons are suddenly changed or trigger several Actions at once. Checking inside TARGET with the EVEN TESTER I can see that all key mapping is mixed up and does trigger wrong stuff. Checking then inside the Profile Editor of TARGET everything is correctly mapped. That confuses me very much. I did uninstall ALL Drivers and Firmware and did reinstall again, also same with TARGET Software ( all according user info with unplugging the Hardware during uninstall and reinstall ). I also had contact with Thrustmaster support, but they are a joke, they just told me to install the latest Drivers and Firmware, no other help. Has anyone here the same problems, does anybody have help for me please? How many people here are using Thrutmaster HOTAS with the TARGET Software? I heard it is possible to use TM HOTAS without TARGET Software in IL-2!? But how to do that without TARGET, how to map keys to the HOTAS System then for IL-2? Can anyone explain please. Untill this problem is not solved I can not use IL-2 , since it ruins the whole game for me. Thanks very much for help in advance.
SCG_Tzigy Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 so srry! uninstall TARGET! no need have had TMx3 for now seems like 100 years. NEVER used TARGET ( i know some people like it and use it) simple assignments are done from within the sim - just open controls, double click the field, etc, pretty easy once u get going! as long as the TM was recognized by Windows as a controller, it should work flawlessly! 1
spitfirejoe Posted June 3, 2020 Author Posted June 3, 2020 (edited) OK Thanks I will try that then! Even I really always thought that the HOTAS System needs TARGET to work. EDIT: Now I tried again to map the key commands only inside the game without running TARGET. Then it worked for 5 Minutes and suddenly all problems came back as before. I was even more confused. Then I stopped IL-2 and openend in Windows "Devices and Printers" to check the Throttle of my HOTAS and I did not see any problems at first, but suddenly many buttons and switches went crazy and triggered several and wrong commands. I tried to do a new calibration inside "Properties" and hope that this fixed the problems. Time will tell. I am really annoyed about all this and it took me many days now to figure out what´s going on. Edited June 4, 2020 by spitfirejoe
SCG_Tzigy Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 hopefully it will all work out... i would definitely delete all Target associated files for starters, also consider different USB port hope its not a hardware issue.. 1
spitfirejoe Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) thanks for your help. I did not use TARGET, but even then I had the same trouble again today. The strange thing is that I start IL-2 and all controlls work fine, but sometimes after 10 or 15 minutes suddenly the controlls are mixed up again, always only the Throttle, the Joystick always works fine. Next days I do more trouble shooting, try to use different USB ports and so on. Maybe it´s a hardware problem of the throttle, but I doubt that to be honest. Edited June 4, 2020 by spitfirejoe
Alonzo Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Ensure TARGET is uninstalled and not running. Use "Set up USB Game Controllers" on Windows 10. Check if you can see your device. Double click device, then move throttle, axes, press buttons. If it's working in the Game Controllers screen, it should work for IL2. 1
spitfirejoe Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 Hello Alonzo. yes I did check the Game Controllers directly in Windows 10 and the Throttle did make trouble there aswell, Joystick works normal. I did recalibrate the Throttle in Windows again and did Restart the PC, then it worked normal. Today I must continue testing if it stays stable like that. Thanks for your Input.
spitfirejoe Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 Me again...……..my problems are still not solved. I did test a lot……….deeinstalled TARGET and the TM Hotas Software. Reeinstalled everything new, got new Firmware again and so on. The problem is that my THROTTLE looses it´s calibration all the time and that causes that the switches and buttons trigger totally wrong stuff. ( with a TARGET profile or without one using direct commands from IL-2 key mapping ) I can see that in Windows 10 "Printers and Devices" in "Properties" totally wrong commands are triggered. After I recalibrated the thottle then it works for a while. After I switch off the PC and turn it back on, calibration is lost again and all buttons are mixed up again and trigger wrong stuff. Even after calibration when it works...……...after 1 hour or less gaming IL-2 during a game session all buttons start to trigger wrong stuff again. Using TARGET or NOT using TARGET...………..all the same. When I want to check the "Device Analyzer" in TARGET GUI or in TARGET Script Editor, it does not open...……..I get an ERROR MESSAGE...……..see Picture ( I have no idea what that ERROR message means ). Might that be the hint of my Problem? Anybody has a clue what might be the problem? I am in contact with Thrustmaster support already for weeks, but they are the most stupid and useless support I have ever seen. Dealing with them is just pain in the ass. Thanks guys………….hoping for help here again!
Jaws2002 Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Windows 10 USB drivers can mess a lot of things up. Double check your windows power management settings. A lot of issues come from there. Make sure windows doesn't shut down your controller, or USB hub, to save power. Motherboard chipset drivers and other hardware related software can cause conflicts. I had issues with CH Control manager. After a few days of digging, it turned out "Aorus RGB fusion"software, that controls the, lighting of the motherboard, memory and Graphics card, was interfering with CH manager. Now after every start up, I have to shut down RGB fusion. As soon as i do it, my CH stick and pedals work perfectly, together with CH Manager software. You could have similar issues. Some third party software is trying to take control of your USB hub. Edited June 19, 2020 by Jaws2002 1
spitfirejoe Posted June 19, 2020 Author Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Thanks for your answer………...I will look into that today more deeply. EDIT: I did check again my power Settings in Windows, all set in high. Also checked the USB ports again……….I checked USB 2.0 and 3.0 with the HOTAS, no help. Running TARGET as Administrator does not help either. I can not find the problem. It´s driving me mad. Edited June 19, 2020 by spitfirejoe
fiddlinjim Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Never use the Target software. It just isn't needed. I don't know if this will but whenever I have any difficulties I can cure 99% of the problems by updating and insuring Win 10 and Nvidia are the latest versions and then restarting my rig.
69th_Panp Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Spitfirejoe I had a similar problem with my thrustmaster throttle. Everything would work just fine and then it would have multiple key presses going on. I ended up opening the base, I then found some wires that were chafing and would short out the base when the throttles were in a specific position. Repaired the wiring and positioned them out of the way of the chafe point. Still working after 3 years. Might want to look under the hood and see if you have a mechanical issue. 2

Thank you very much for the good hint………...I will open it up and have a look for wiring trouble like you had. Did not think about it till now, but I will give it a go. 6 hours ago, fiddlinjim said: Never use the Target software. It just isn't needed. Thank you very much for your input. I alsways use latest updates and drivers. I have the trouble with my HOTAS for a very long time already. I will continue Trouble Shooting and follow the instruction above to open the Throttle and look for mechanical problems. I am thankful to any tip which could help, so thank you to everybody here.

THAT was the one………...I opened it and saw that I also had the cable of one throttle chafing. I fixed it and had no problems anymore. THANK YOU again for your help. 1 1
