screamingdemon Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 It is really cool that control surfaces are able to detach from the plane as part of the damage model. I was thinking that realistically such items would not be so cooperative during such a departure, e.g. there are normally a number of hinges on a control surface and most likely not all would be destroyed at the same time. So yes you guessed right! Most likely the loose control surfaces (flaps and gear doors too) would first flutter vigorously before agreeing to depart from their cozy position on the air frame. Little bit of stick shudder (FFB too), a brief but terrible zink plate fluttering sound and little bit of violent but brief yaw/roll due to the disturbed airflow.....Will also be great for situational awareness to know when we lost a limb
THERION Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I don't think this is possible to do with mods as you would need access to the FM and DM. That being said, it is good we don't have access to these elementary sections. Imagine the whole mess it would end in. I don't think this is going to happen - thanks God! Maybe when the IL2 Great Battle series is done, outdated or dead, maybe then modders might have access to the FM and DM modules, but not before. Just to think about all those "experts" getting their hands on this, scares me deeply. 1
screamingdemon Posted May 31, 2020 Author Posted May 31, 2020 Ok Therion lets trim it down like this....Little bit of stick shudder/vibration on FFB and a synchronized brief but terrible zink plate fluttering sound. No FM or DM should be harmed in this way, only some effects triggered by the event 1

For things like stick shudder and yaw/roll, you would also need the FM. So, I'm afraid the answer stays the same - until the Devs release much more assets to the general public, it's impossible to mod.

I am proposing an alternate logic: There already exist a "signal" from DM to instruct animation to release/detach a control surface from plane body (which we can often see as part fluttering to the ground). I propose to "listen" for that signal then add a feedback effect (sound and FFB). For proof of concept, it could be the same affect as "Stall effect" to start with (and tweak it later), but of course just a brief moment eg 0.5/1.0 sec long. This would simulate "flutter effect" and provide pilot sense that control surface missing.

Adding additional effects under new circumstances is actually *more* difficult as it requires changing the code itself instead of a couple of tweaks to the FM/DM. In other words, this is sadly not possible, and it's extremely unlikely it will ever become so unless the Devs themselves implement it. 1
