Very old LOL Like me ....old and a bit worn on the edges lol. Y wing was a long hard slog but finally finished.....Phew! Last 3 pics are of original props at half the scale approx of mine for reference of just how bad the Original models looked ,they did not have even a pilot figure which was a surprise to see... Now to find a shelf big enough lol. On 7/4/2021 at 2:35 PM, Feathered_IV said: The floats are on at last (no dramas fortunately) and the beaching gear is coming along. Legioneod Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Building a Gato Class Submarine and I'm trying to figure out the weathering. Trying to figure out if the chipping in these photos goes down to bare steel or is it the primer showing through? Any thoughts? T55 is on hold, I've been lazy and haven't done much work on it. http://navsource.org/archives/08/233/0823213.jpg http://navsource.org/archives/08/238/0823712.jpg 1
Feathered_IV Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Nice one on the Y-wing VC. What a beast. I wonder if you could mount it vertically on a wall? Got the wood finish done and sealed with a flat coat. Adding the brackets and whatnot from shapes cut out of painted decal film. Hopefully I can get the S.5 sitting in place over the coming weekend... ? 6

Feathered_IV Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Almost there. Just the chrome-painted spinner and black axle hubs left to go. The weather is dark and rainy today, so as soon as I can get some decent sunlight and a properly flat surface I can take some final shots. 9 2

Feathered_IV Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Hey thanks. I’m glad its finished at last. The silver could do to be a bit better I think. I’ll have to work on that next time, although I have no idea what the next one will be.

Yes silver is probably the hardest to get right , sometimes I resort to Alclad ,Their range of Metalics is great,I use chrome as a base then dull it down till required finish. Fantastic job all the same feathered......awesome. 1

I used chrome paint for the very first time the other day on the prop spinner and was thinking how much more fine grained it was compared to other silvers. Especially in small scales. I was wondering how it would go, mixing or spraying thin coats over the top. I'll definitely be giving it a go ? 1

Diggun Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Hi Hivemind! I'd like to build a 1:48 scale Spitfire IX. There are a whole bunch available from different manufacturers. Any recommendations as to which are good and which to avoid??

Feathered_IV Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 There’s also the Eduard IX in 1/48 which received rave reviews. I believe there are some unboxings and sprue tours on YouTube that would give you a good look at the contents. 1 1
