I'll lead with a pre-emptive "That's what she said" before remarking, wow, that thing is huge.

Or at the risk of sounding like a real fanboy I will quote Luke Skywalker "Look at that The size of that thing!."Lol.?

That's amazing VC.  Where do you find these kits?  I feel like I'm giving an ant a vasectomy while doing the struts on mine.

You made them from copper? To me, that‘s plain magic what you are doing…

Cheers Zach.  I used sterling silver for these.  Copper is a bit soft and I’ve got heaps of silver floating around.  The streamlined boot at the base is shaped with a blob of superglue that was blended into the surface.  I still need to tweak these a bit. The S.5 has the fuselage slightly to one side of the centreline between the floats.  Probably to counteract torque.  This means all the struts have to be different lengths. It’s a bugger!

Quite OT this post, but I have the feeling I might have a lot more time for modelling in the near future. Why? Cause I should be at work this moment, doing my Saturday shift, but when I arrived at work this morning I found firefighters at the scene and my workplace was reduced to a smoldering heap of junk. Apparently a band of vandals tromped through the city last night, demolishing whatever they got their hands on and then they set fire to the paper/cardboard dumpsters which then set the insulation on fire and ultimately burnt down the entire house. There is nothing left to salvage, nothing could be saved.

Right now I'm still in the disbelief phase. I guess I'll have to start looking for a new job come next week. ?

Hi feathered.

Its not a kit as such,My best mate over at Ian Lawrence models 3d printed The Parts for me.

I said "could it be scaled up to 1/18th scale to match The De Agostini X wing I am also going to build?."

As you can see The answer was "yes".

He 3d prints corrective parts for already existing kits to order.

We have been best mates for a good few years now.

if you google "Ian Lawrence models" you will go straight to his site and see his builds and tips and work in progress.

Prepare to be amazed at the stuff he dose, although he would be modest about his models he never ceases to amaze me.

I am so sorry for you mate.

Chin up, I hope you still have The skills to build a new future.

I wish you all the luck mate.

Nice fabric and wood effects..Awsome.

I am a big fan of gliders as I used to fly them.

Well done mate.

Thanks. The kit is a steal- 2 gliders in one box for some 8 EUR or so. Easy to build (8 parts), just careful with the tail part- very flexible. I managed to bend the first one when cleaning it up.

And here is the photo of the original from 1943 in my hometown- Bratislava. In the picture the gondola is not attached.

British of course. If you took a British 1930's bomber and rebuilt it as a submarine, it by all means ends up looking like that. I'm sure those guys in the picture of your book never told their mothers what they were up to.

Another box opened. A proper kit this time, not a shortrun. Almost forgot how that feels :)

CR 42 ?

Posted (edited)

Correct. Cr.42 Falco. Woudl like to build the Luigi Tochio Night fighter version but am scratching my head due to a few things I am not sure about.

1. The colour- Italeri says Gunship Gray- which would correspond with Mr. Color H305. Should it really be this colour or flat black?
2. The interior colour- Italeri indicates as alluminium but all pictures I could find sport a neutral grey interior.
3. The decals- it show the Italian saying only on the right side of the engine cowling, but I found pictures of models with the saying on both sides or even on the left side.

4. different exhaust endings- the kit includes the one in the upper picture, not the straight ones.

5. the FIAT CR.42 decals- should or should they not be on there (just before the elevators)

6. the additional search lights under the wings- should or should they be not there?

Tried to find some photos of the original, but no luck. Would be very thankful if someone could enlighten me on the points. Otherwise I might end up building a SCI FI plane :)

I found this one but the picture seems to be a colorated W/B photo. So not sure I can trust it.

Done with black basing, sprayed red paint where the roundels will be and will mask that before continuing with the rest. I painted the roundel at the end on the Val and placing the masks was a pain, figured placing a circular mask is a lot easier than placing a square with a circle cut in it so trying that for this build.

My next project. Aichi M6A1 in 1/48 by Tamiya.

Trying to decide if I should prime before my canopy masks arrive or after.

Anyone picked up the new Airfix 1/72 Tiger I VS Firefly and F4F-4 VS A6M2 sets? I’m thinking of picking them up, but I’d like to know that the Firefly and F4F-4 paintschemes are.

I know that the Tiger is Michael Wittmann’s 007 from the 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion and that the A6M2 is a flight leader from the Hiryu. I’d assumed that the Firefly was Joe Ekins’, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The F4F-4 doesn’t seem to be from VMF-221 like I was hoping either.

For the nutters that like really small scale stuff.

So rare to see WW2 Japanese aircraft hardware, that's pretty cool!

Speaking of Japanese aircraft, did the bulk of the painting, happy with how the Hinomarus and the other markings turned out :

That is amazing.  You could probably flog it off to a wealthy collector for a very tidy sum later on!

Going to try some black basing on this little 1/144 X-craft.  The resin cast was pretty grainy but it cleaned up quite well.
