Just finished Hasegawas 1998 P47 Razorback, very nice shake'n'bake kit. I got to mainly concentrate on the painting side of it and play around with tonal variety via 6 main colour layers and lightening and darkening my olive drab to achieve the look i was going for. Completed with an oil wash and a final clear coat of 50/50 matt/gloss. Great little basic kit that falls together nicely. <Snip> Couple more since we are stuck at the 5mb limit Just stunning... Well done Edited November 7, 2020 by 40plus 2

Matt Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 That P-47 and 190 look perfect hetstaine. I love the shading and dust or dirt accumulated in the panel lines. I only have very limited time nowadays to use my spray booth, so i just gave the AT-AT its base coat. Looks brighter on the photos than in real life, but i want to achieve that brighter look, so i'll give it thin layer of white later on. And then it will just need plenty of detail painting by brush and weathering. 5 2
Birdman Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 The P47 is a beauty! Work has started on the Kingfisher, the cockpit and gunner position are put together, and the interior portions for the fuselage halves are painted: I didn't have a proper zinc chromate paint so I eyeballed it with some dark IJN green and lemon yellow. 4

Feathered_IV Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Back to the other scratchbuilding project. Tiny votive offerings to hopefully bring about a Flying Circus Vol.2 Made some new and better wheels, plus a couple of sets of props and spinners. The lower wings of the D.III got attached at last and I'll hopefully do the same for the D.IIIa over the next couple of days. A vulgar little blob of blutack is holding the upper wing in place for now. The details are hard to see in the white, but it's looking pretty crisp so far. Need to start thinking about colour schemes soon. 6 4
STN Posted November 11, 2020 Posted November 11, 2020 Finito. I imagined this to be a piece of cake... not.... I tried to depict the ANT-5 prototype. The Zvezda kit cost cca. 5 EUR and oh boy, did I get exactly what I paid for! The green plastic is soft a brittle at the same time, not good for filing. List of adjustments- cockpit- made completely from scratch, used only the floor, adjusted the shape of vertical stabiliser, exhaust pipes made from brass tube, thinned down trailing edge, since it looked like a concrete plate in this scale, adjusted the shape of the cylinder heads, added headrest, replaced support beams of horizontal stabilisers and only on the finished kit I noticed the shape of the rudder is wrong, so adjusted it somewhat also. At this point I gave up on other adjustments. No point in pushing it more :) ANT-5 Zvezda 1:72 8 2
Matt Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 I just primed this piece of junk yesterday. Will then probably start painting next week or so. 2 2
XQ_Lothar29 Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 [EDUARD 1:48 Weekend Edition, Messerschmitt Bf 109F4 plane] 8.JG54 Black 1 Piloted by the Newly Accomplished the position of Staffelkapitän (squad leader) 8 Staffel./JG54 Grünherz "Hptm. Max Hellmuth Ostermann" also got days before the "Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves" (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub) for his 62nd aerial victory on March 12, 1942, Russia. shortly thereafter, Osterman's Bf109 F4, would be withdrawn from combat due to serious damage, since Ostermann had to make an emergency landing after receiving impacts on his right arm and the upper part of his right leg ... only a few months later of this accident, and already piloting his brand new BF109 G2, the one who was Confused on his Wedding Day and arrested for his appearance to a child would see the cruel reality. Ostermann was killed in action on August 9, 1942, far behind Soviet lines east of Lake Ilmen. He and his partner Unteroffizier Heinrich Bosnin were flying at an altitude of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) when they saw a formation of nine Curtiss P-40s. Ostermann shot down the P-40 from the rear of the formation. The two were regrouping for a second attack, when they themselves were attacked from behind by a group of Soviet fighters emerging from the cloud cover. Ostermann's Bf 109G-2 (Werknummer 10438 - factory number) was hit in the cockpit by 41 IAP (41st Fighter Aviation Regiment) Starshiy Leytenant (First Lieutenant) Arkadiy Sukov flying a LaGG-3. The plane capsized and crashed into the edge of a small forest. So that young man like so many others who only wanted to fly lost his life at only 25 years old, without really knowing how beautiful life would have been without having to face counterparts of the same age from another country, which in case of not being in war they could have been quiet friends. D.E.P After a little introduction and history, LET'S GO TO THE PHOTOS. I wish you like it 8 2

Buglord Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Fantastic work everyone .. i see everyone's been busy , good to see more modelers on here..... i actually ran out of likes for the day lol. Will give some more tomorrow STN i see you got there in the end .. looks excellent. Part One of a Three part project: Panzer 38T Ausf G. Russia 1942 : 1/35 Dragon.. 9 2
STN Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Good job, Buglord. The weathering is subtle and spot on. Actually I believe if You made some pictures against an outdoor background, I would have trouble distinguishing whether it is a picture of the real things. 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Great work everyone. Your finished are amazing. Lothar, I’m used to seeing unique 109 schemes, but that one is something else! Bug, that 38 looks like it could roll right over your neighbours car. And STN... that is one of my top ten favourites of all time. I so wish there was one in my scale. Really looking forward to seeing you give it the works! 1
40plus Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of help. I'm moving on to the next phase of my 1:32 Il-2, the engine. I've done the Google-fu but I'm having trouble finding reference photos of the AM-38 installed in an aircraft. Lots of pictures of them sitting separate, lots of pictures of an il-2 but none of the engine bay. I'm most interested in seeing details of writing harnesses and miscellaneous piping. The best I've found is this http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/Ilyushin/Il-2/Walkround/Berlin/index.php Not an ideal reference for model building..... Unless I want to learn extreme weathering techniques I suppose. If anyone could point me to reference material, it would be appreciated.
voncrapenhauser Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Not much help , this one I think but man! it,s almost impossible to find pics with engine in situ. I even looked on the Flying IL2 pics too. Edited November 16, 2020 by voncrapenhauser 1

40plus Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) MJDixon, that's fantastic. I even looked on the Flying IL2 pics too. Much Appreciated voncrapen. I hadn't found this one and I may be able to glean some details out of it. I did further reading about why there are so few original IL-2s around and apparently they were all scrapped after the war. Of the only two remaining flying examples, one has been repowered so not of much reference use. Kinda explains the lack of photos Edited November 16, 2020 by 40plus 1 1

I hadn't planned on making the bubbles for the torpedo as I didn't know if I'd be able to do it or not, but some bubbles formed anyway as I guess I didn't fill/seal the U-Boat properly, but I was able to manoeuvre most of them over to the torpedo before the resin had set. 4

KiwiMcG Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Airfix's 1/24 Mosquito, a box build, so what you see really is what you get. Based on aircraft flown by Group Captain P C Pickard (DSO -2 bars, DFC) of 487 Squadron RNZAF on the Amiens Prison Raid (Operation Jericho) flying a FBVI - HX922. The crew and aircraft did not return from the raid and there is some speculation as to what exactly happened. I say based as the actual aircraft (as I found out later) it had needle blade props and a whip aerial, I see quite a few other builders got caught out by this too. So research, research if your looking at exactness. Easy enough to amend though the build does take a significant amount of time. I think as many of the kits of this sold, many will remain unbuilt as it really is an epic undertaking to see through to the end. The kit itself provides several options and a very good decal sheet with a range of options and stores. Slipper tanks, bombs, rockets, both needle and paddle props along with all black night fighter or fully doped silver inclusive. Definite rattle can unless you have a fully dedicated auto shop spray room... 9 2

I found the cockpit parts an absolute Sh!$ to fit and IMO is from the rumored attempted kit from the late 70,s but fuz and wings brand new.. IE The Cockpit has all the problems of Airfix,s older 24th range as cockpit parts also never fitted properly ,that said it is a impressive model when built, I agree many will stay unbuilt. But excellent job and impressive photo,s too. 16 hours ago, Birdman said: Tried black basing on the Kingfisher, may have gone a tad too far but there's some variations, the pic doesn't do it justice unfortunately Still a pretty cool technique. Birdman Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 The Mossie is awesome and so is that U-boat! Painted the Kingfisher some more, the top side today: Pretty happy with the color variations overall. 2 2
STN Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Done. That is as good as I was able to do this one. The kit is a very basic one. Just added home made seatbelts (made from masking tape), hollowed out the exhaust pipes, the boots and a few air intakes. replaced the elevator support beams and the lower aerial. Added complete riveting but in the end it is barely visible. A strange thing happened after placing the decals- the blue colour caught a violet undertone. But all in all I enjoyed the build, even despite the low quality and prescision. Dewoitine D.500 3C2 Navy Squadron French Navy 1935 1:72 Kovozavody Prostejov 9
Feathered_IV Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Jaw dropping work. The U-boat and Mossie are phenomenal. STN, you win. The D.500-510 series are among my all time favourites. That fourth shot is now my desktop wallpaper 1
