Tyberan Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I just bought 1/144 dual pack Eduard mkix spitfires. They are tiny, how the hell do you work on ww1 stuff?
Feathered_IV Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) You get used to it pretty quick. Those Eduard Spitfires are quite good and have lots of conversion potential too. I’ve been converting one to a Griffon XIV and in many ways it is much less work than in larger scales. Edited May 8, 2019 by Feathered_IV 1
sallee Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Now there's an unusual subject. You do choose them, don't you!

STN Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Oh hoh hoh! Baguette baguette! Sacre bleu! Few corrections will be required ? 3
Feathered_IV Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Decals beginning to go on. Never thought I’d get this far! Added more pieces to the engine too. Still some more essentials needed but it is beginning to look pleasingly busy. 4 4
sallee Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Quite awe inspiring. I'm looking forward to seeing it rigged. 1

sallee Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 That Ju87 bloke is a rank amateur. Fancy putting a US coin there instead of a contemporary German one.... 2

voncrapenhauser Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 Be a shame to paint it looks cool in bare metal
voncrapenhauser Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 Looking good there STN Mate. Last sea plane I made was the old Airfix Walrus I think. Definitely different there mate.
STN Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Thanks buddy. There will be a lot of covering up to do. The support beams are a mess ? Some were too short, some were too long. For some I drilled holes just to realize there are not supposed to be any... I am still struggling to decide whether to make life easy for myself and do all of the rigging as single line, or some of it twin line.
Feathered_IV Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 It looks super to me. I think Hayayo Miyazaki would somehow approve too. It wouldn’t look out if place in the Porco Rosso universe. 1
Feathered_IV Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 More Fee. The on again/off again relationship between the nacelle and the lower wings is finally over. At long last they are together for ever. I added some more detail to the engine too, along with the mount for the windscreen (the glass is a placeholder and will be replaced with a better one later). Plus painted the rudder and made a start on the seatbelts in the observers cockpit. All this took place within a handy jig made from a handy sheet of 3mm acrylic that was nice and flat. I took extra care to ensure the sides are square to one another so I can use them for setout, then scored the centreline and leading edge position of the wing into it. The wings and nacelle are jacked up on styrene blocks so that the wing joins are hanging in the air. I was very worried that the gap-filling superglue that I intended to use would flow out and bond the piece to the jig otherwise. All seemed to go well, and I was able to start doing the shading and highlights to the nacelle. This is done in part with artist's oils for the shadows, and some surgically-sharp pale green and grey pencils for the highlights. Having a day off today, I put a clear coat onto the nacelle to seal this layer in before doing some secondary highlighting later. I couldn't resist a trial run of the guns in the front cockpit, and risked all taking the model outside to photograph it on this cloudy, windy day.... 4 5
Feathered_IV Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Thanks guys. It must admit I'm very surprised myself. I get a weird sense of vertigo when looking at it. Those Lewis guns are the same size as a mosquito!
STN Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Rigging done. It was a fight. Not sure what was wrong but the wires kept slipping out of the holes, did not want to get straightened by heat.... melted a few... I am happy I made it as is even though a bit messy with all the CA glue. 1
Hoots Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Looks amazing to me. Pretty little aircraft isn’t it. 1
Feathered_IV Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Looks lovely. I'm really looking forward to the masking coming off too.
STN Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 The fight is over, lots of mistakes. Some I did not even have the energy to cover up. But it will do for the home display case CAMS 37 LIA SM3, section d` entrainement Saint Mandrier, Berre 1938 1:72 Azur 3 2
Buglord Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Great work everyone.? I`m getting there with the Scammell . I`m actually a lot further ahead than what the photos show. still a lot to do thou. 3 1
Feathered_IV Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Looking good Bug'. The Scammell was one of those kits that I always wanted as a kid and I would look at the artwork for it in the Airfix catalogue longingly for hours. STN, you are bloody amazing. It's beautiful . You really made it sing!
STN Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Thanks for the kind words guys. Got another interesting subject on the table. 1 1
voncrapenhauser Posted June 8, 2019 Author Posted June 8, 2019 Nice one Bug. Very different there STN mate. Next one A Rata?
Feathered_IV Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 Pretty interesting choice. Is that the Bristol monoplane from the Gordon Bennett race?
STN Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 It is the Bristol Racer. Looking forward to building it, but I fear interior painting etc. will be done as per my imagination/assessment.
