Feathered_IV Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 (edited) A bit image heavy. I hope this doesn't count as spamming... It was a very paintey weekend. Edited July 24, 2018 by Feathered_IV 5 5
STN Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Honestly Feathered, I am amazed at the level of cleanliness You are able to maintain at this scale. 1
Feathered_IV Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 It's pretty much clean hands, good light and strong magnification. I think my habit of working as cleanly as possible slightly outweighs my natural clumsiness. Most of my modelling time is spent either wiping down, or crawling around under the desk, trying to find the thing that I've just dropped. In good weather I often build with the windows open for all to see. The obsessive/compulsive guy in the apartment opposite admires the frequency with which I wash my hands. While the Islamic couple who live above him are deeply impressed by my piety, as I frequently drop to the floor with my head almost touching the carpet and begin wailing... 6
Feathered_IV Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Managed to mask and paint the new glazing. Not easy in 1/144. Also tried my hand at some shading and highlights with artist's oils. Starting to look more Battle-like now. 3 1

Are you some kind of masochistic person to build models in 1/144 with all these details??? I started building models at the age of 10 and used the scale 1/72, going then to 1/48. And now that my eyes are getting worse, I switched to 1/32. Really, amazing job you're doing. Cheers
Jason_Williams Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Hey guys, I attended the IPMS national convention in Phoenix, AZ this past weekend with our friend GN728 who is an awesome master modeler himself. I wish he'd post some of his work in this thread. Anyways, the show was awesome. Really cool models. Here are a few pics. Some of you may like. Jason 16 5 8
Lusekofte Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I simply cannot comprehend the technique utilized on these models and the painting of them. Fantastic
No_85_Gramps Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 The models and craftsmanship at the IPMS National always blows my mind. I've had the opportunity to attend two of the Nationals when they were held in Virginia Beach, VA. Hopefully it will return to that venue in the near future. Thanks for sharing Jason!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean - I just realized that my scratch build throttle levers in my the YAK-3 cockpit are gone. Was fiddling around with these seating belts - apparently not cautious enough! Damn!
Cybermat47 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Did some dirt effects on my old 1/72 Airfix Red Baron Albatros D.Va: Also, I never realised that my younger self had left that hair in the engine 1

In next model use more diluted color and plane will be much much better. 1

Save that hair. You may need it for the weave. 1
gn728 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Hey - there's my Viper! Didn't know there was a model forum here - will definitely post some pics...?...It was great fun hanging out with you in that blast furnace of Phoenix. Glad I talked you in to going - now start working on your Trumpeter P-40...?..
ITAF_Rani Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 All these kits make me to want build samething?

This diorama is incredible, but I feel like there's something missing on the tank.
blockheadgreen_ Posted August 14, 2018 Posted August 14, 2018 1/72 scale Typhoon IB, brushpainted and trying to represent one sold for scrap, very poorly photographed this morning. 2
JG4_Sputnik Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Love that Dora and also the submarine is off the charts!!
Cybermat47 Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Here’s another kit I made a while back, the Revell 1/72 Fokker Dr.I. The one I made is the plane that von Richthofen was flying when he scored his last two victories and died, though it had updated national markings at that time. 2
Feathered_IV Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 First the red Albatros, now the red Fokker. I think I detect a slight Richthofen fetish there! 1
voncrapenhauser Posted August 15, 2018 Author Posted August 15, 2018 The guy with the paper planes is awesome. I tried a 1/16th scale SE 5a out of paper a few years ago now and that was difficult needing an internal structure, but this guy takes the biscuit, my hats off to him. 1

Buglord Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Fantastic work everyone, ive been away from my modelling table, been enjoying summer , getting back on track tonight, cracking on with the KI-84. 1
carts Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 Some great models beong posted here,a bit gob smacked with what Feathered produces in 1/44 scale,I really need to crack off an Aircraft kit,but ive been on a sci-fi kick for a few years, heres a few ive either re-painted or started from scratch. Horizon T.Rex Aqua Alien from Ressurection 1/4 scale Neca Alien repaint Biliken Batman and Joker Horizon Robocop 3 1
Feathered_IV Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Oh wow, fantastic work! Especially the Aliens. Amazing. *shudder*
Uufflakke Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Great work Carts! I would like to know which ones were made from scratch. Talking about 'from scratch', do you know the works by Juliana Lepine? 2
carts Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Perhaps I should have been clearer,I meant that some, like Robocop Ive had for nearly 30 years and have been repainted, whereas the Batman was a recent purchase,I do a bit of scratch building, but mainly bases and diorama settings, and nowhere in the league of the work done above?
Uufflakke Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Here is the figurine I made a few years ago: a 1:16 scale Dutch Musketeer. As you can see plastic parts didn't match very well. Took me quite some time to make things fit and make it seamless. But at the end I am satisfied with the result. 1 2
Pipa Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 My 1/6 Scale DAK Luftwaffe pilot figure. Modified version of old BBI figure “Otto Schulz”. 3
Feathered_IV Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Nice work! The Battle has finally got its main undercarriage on. The new tyres and hubs were painted separately then assembled afterwards. The oleo legs are st.silver wire, and I went to a lot of trouble to get the length just right. Measuring the height of the ground line in relation to the propeller hub to ensure that the overall height of the aircraft was okay. The doors and mudguards were made from .1mm styrene and painted before fixing them in place with PVA one at a time (very tricky). I added the mysterious little rectangles on the wheel doors too from silver-painted decal film. Not a very flattering photo from that angle though. The rear gunner's position also got its canopy masked, and the starboard landing light was finally fitted. I also made the Vickers gun. Well... most of it anyway. The gun is displayed in the stowed position inside the rotating cone which houses it. It seemed the most likely place for it to be when the aircraft was at rest. This also had the happy side-effect of keeping the barrel out of sight, so I wouldn't have to mess about making it. The drum and rear portion of the gun are there though, just behind the little triangular shaped piece of armour plate, so I made these from strip and rod and glued them in place. Lastly, I fixed the gunners canopy in place with four strategically placed specks of PVA. This was an insanely fiddly job, as it had to sit at just the right angle and line up evenly along three axis at the same time. I spent an age fiddling abut with tweezers and dental tools, then in despair just stuck it in there with thumb and forefinger. Miraculously it ended up in the right place first time. Not wanting to tempt fate I quickly used my best 000 brush to apply the glue and stepped well back. The light is a bit shite today, so apologies for the slightly fuzzy photos. Next up is the pilots seat and harness, fuselage codes, tailwheel and radio mast. Then its the remainder of the weathering. After that the Battle should finally be over and I can move forward, into broad sunlit uplands. 1 1 3
Cybermat47 Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 (edited) Feathered, you madman, how many lifetimes did that take you to do? I’ve made some models on the small side as well... they don’t look quite as good (Also in this photo are a Corgi Panther, Airfix 1/72 D3A1 in Soryu colours and A6M2 in Akagi colours, Academy 1/72 P-40 N in No. 80 SQN RAAF colours, Revell 1/350 Type VII-D u-boat U-217, Hobbyboss Type VII-B u-boat U-48, Revell 1/350 Type VII-C u-boat U-96, Airfix 1/72 Albatros D.Va in Australian War Memorial and Red Baron colours, and Airfix 1/72 Hs-123). sallee Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Wow, Feathered. You are one patient and talented nutter. What did you make the hair from? 1
