Feathered_IV Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Damn! That looks Perfect. Mind appropriately blown
STN Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 (edited) Almost done. Still thinking about attempting to do at least some rigging. Edited November 22, 2017 by STN 4
Smouch Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Very very nice STN, I don't think I would even attempt the rigging on something that small. I tried to use some EZline on the bomber but fougnd it a little frustrating. (more practice I guess) So here are some pics of it pretty much finished. Not my best work. but I'll leave it at that. 11
voncrapenhauser Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Not a plane and a little small scale for me. Hoping to finish this quickly now as I want to get on with my 1/32nd Do 335. 1

Feathered_IV Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 Lovely. I really want to do ene now as well
STN Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 I can only recommend the kit. It was fun to build.Right-o! Off to another adventure. This time we travel to the stone age of plastic model kits, 1970. Top one- scratch/scavenge cockpit by me (WIP). The bottom one- precision tool, high detail cockpit by Hasegawa. 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 My sheet of 3mm styrene arrived in the post the other day. Should last for ages Looks a bit like a shoe... 1
sallee Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I think he's right. Feathered, the human 3d printer.... 3
sallee Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Lovely. I really want to do ene now as well it has inspired me to buy that one and the Roden one! 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 FE 2 fuz ? Good guess! It's starting to look more like itself now that I've begun to grind out the interior. The edges of the nacelle need to be razor thin, so a lot of careful work will be needed. I'm hoping to do all the bits inside and am trying to find some drawings and dimensions for the 160hp Beardmore engine. It's a start anyway... Here's a shot next to my trusty .5mm pencil for scale. 2
voncrapenhauser Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 Looking good so far. Genius when you come to scratch building, hats off to ya mate.
voncrapenhauser Posted November 29, 2017 Author Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) Have plenty of time on my hands at the moment. Found these pictures online I don't know if there any help Feathered? Couldn't find any blueprints though Edited December 2, 2017 by voncrapenhauser 4
Feathered_IV Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Wow, that's a huge help. Particularly the cutaway and the one showing the differences between the 120 and 160hp versions. Thanks very much indeed! I've got the fuselage shaped up and thinned down correctly now. If I can manage to get some primer on it this weekend I'l put a picture up. Cheers!
voncrapenhauser Posted December 2, 2017 Author Posted December 2, 2017 (edited) No problem mate. Found three more pics in close up above. Look forward to seeing the ship when its finished. Edited December 2, 2017 by voncrapenhauser 2
Feathered_IV Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 (edited) Thanks again Vc! Those cylinders are tricky looking things with all sorts of stuff happening on them. The extra views definitely help. It's been a very rainy weekend here, but I was able to tidy up the parts for the nacelle and give them a squirt. The pieces are just resting against each other so they should assemble a lot more neatly than are shown here. The timber framework will cover a lot of the joins too. I also was able to scrape and sand the wing aerofoil sections from strips of acrylic. This was easier than I expected and I found I could get the undercamber by making a scraper from the filed end of a steel ruler. The real work will be in the rib tapes later on. voncrapenhauser Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) E type update. Most of engine, radiator cooling and front suspension complete, front bulkhead/firewall has most ancillaries added. Just needed some Tamiya smoke and clear colours adding here and there to represent the fluids in the reservoirs and a couple of extra wires also here and there. ITAF_Rani Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Post my U BOAT made several years ago. Had much fun to build this sea hunter !! 2
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Almost done. Still thinking about attempting to do at least some rigging. You can save you that work, STN. The Fokker Dr.I had almost no rigging, with the exception of the cross-wires in the wing center, and at the gear. Note: the steep lift-off of this aircraft. Von Richthofen said it: Turns like a devil and climbs like a monkey! Here you can see that! 2
voncrapenhauser Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 Dr1 had mostly internal rigging for sure and you cannot see that without an x ray lol. Cool video thanks I had not seen that before. Merry Christmas all.
Smouch Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Von Richthofen said it: Turns like a devil and climbs like a monkey! As an aside those words are used in Iron Maidens song Death or Glory from the album Book of Souls.

Buglord Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Excellent work everyone.... I was voting posts up that i like and then it popped up with "You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day" lol never knew it did that... 1
Danziger Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Damn that Su-7 is hot. Maybe we will see one in DCS by 2043...
Feathered_IV Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Hope everybody is having a productive holiday season. I'm still cracking on with the Fe2B. It's great to have such an abundance of reference material in the wake of the much larger wingnut wings kits. I turned the wheel hubs out of two little disks of 1mm styrene, and made the tyres out of .8mm st silver wire. They looked pretty good, but I was worried about paint adhesion to the metal. I found some Evergreen plastic rod instead and wound this around a 3.5mm drill bit. then steamed it over a kettle while Mrs F_IV wasn't looking. These worked out much better and I was able to glue them in place. Here's a shot of the completed styrene wheels in progress. I don't have an appropriate British coin yet, so I'll have to make do with one from the bally Hun. I also tested my patience by doing the cutouts on the back of the pilot's seat. The three long apertures were drilled and opened up with a No.11 scalpel. The other holes are .5, .4 and .3mm drill bits. Not much room for error at this scale. 2
sallee Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Speechless. I don't know if you'd seen that WW have the instructions to their kits on the website, like this http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/productdetail?productid=3044&cat=4 These are for the early Fee, but the late one is there as well. I'm reading "Down the Flarepath" by DH Montgomery at the moment. Good for Fee atmosphere.
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I'm absolutely stunned, Feathered_IV ! I have done minor things on model kits with styrene, but what you create is REALLY hand-crafted. At that size, I guess my nerves would explode from the concentration! Great job!

My French is far too rusty, so I hope you can write in English? Are you saying that you built this aircraft AND the pilot in a 3D program? Looks incredibly good! sallee Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 When I changed jobs last year, one of my colleagues very generously gave me a Wingnut Wings Snipe. I didn't dare to touch it without having a go at something a bit cheaper for practice as I had never actually rigged an aircraft before. I bought the Italeri Camel for about fifteen quid and used it as a test-bed. The result is below. I know it's not beautiful, but I cut a few corners such as filling in sink marks and stuff. The actual rigging wasn't too bad and I avoided the easy rigging option of threading through the cat's cradle with long lengths of thread. I also tried a couple of rigging materials. The real horror was adding the second wing with the feeling of spinning plates...I don't think it will be a problem for the Snipe as WW seem to be rather better designed. I do have a Be12 which I'll make before the Snipe so any tips will be gratefully received. I was thinking of a card template to get everything ligned up. 4
Wolfram-Harms Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 (edited) Looks great IMHO; also the rigging! Good job! The only thing you could have spent more time on would be the joint of left and right fuselage halfs, which is visible on the back. But I guess the WW model will be finer there and make less work. By the way, for all who missed it yet: WingnutWings website offers a HUGE amount of historical photos of the various planes (thx to Greg vanWyngarden and other collectors, who show them there). http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/photogallery?cat=1 Edited January 3, 2018 by Wolfram-Harms

To thank you, I prepare a small video full of explanation. See you soon my friend. mon cher Wolfram-Harms, malgré mon anglais très basique, comment exprimer des critiques très positives par rapport à mon travail. Pour te remercier, je prépare une petite vidéo remplie d'explication. À très bientôt mon ami Edited January 3, 2018 by -IRRE-Trefil
