Buglord Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 yes very well ,the template was £2.50 off e-bay and the circles range from 1 to 36mm which covers all tank wheels in 1/35 scale . will post a pic later on...
voncrapenhauser Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 (edited) Very nice of you both. Looks a bit shaky next to some of the other stuff on here! Excellent Matilda. Nice weathering there Sallee. Pastels ? . The Coutach was expensive in the long run but being a part work at least you can spread the cost better. To buy the kit parts now all at the same time will save you a lot of money, but the kit option was not available when I started it. Edited June 4, 2017 by voncrapenhauser
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Picked up a Tamiya FlaK 88 to put together as my first kit. Hopefully be back with some progress pics before the next year.

That's a nice kit, I had that one with the Hanomag half track and crew too , back in the 80s' It builds into a nice kit, good luck. Edited June 6, 2017 by voncrapenhauser
sallee Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Excellent Matilda. Nice weathering there Sallee. Pastels ? . It's one of the Mig dirt and dust deposits. Only the second time I've used it and I'm not sure I've got the hang of it yet.

Haven't heard of that product before, but it looks great to me,you seem to have got the sun bleaching effect spot on. So in my humble opinion you got the hang of it all right.

Bought one! Haven't heard of that product before, but it looks great to me,you seem to have got the sun bleaching effect spot on. So in my humble opinion you got the hang of it all right. Very kind. I'm reading the "Crucible of War" trilogy at the moment and there's a picture of a Matilda which makes it look as if I've underdone it! Just going back to this, which I put to one side last year when painting the camouflage with Mig paints (which are like diluted ink) was driving me mad. About four coats in all! Now I'm going to cover all my hard work in crap! As you'll see, there were really big birds on the Somme in those days.... Edited June 7, 2017 by sallee 2
voncrapenhauser Posted June 9, 2017 Author Posted June 9, 2017 Nice one mate. I always liked the ww1 tank design, that's a female Tank (one with guns) if I remember the right terminology, I could be wrong as I am no expert on armour.

Oddly enough "Mother" was a male! This is going to be a tribute to my grandfather who was a Sergeant in the Machine Gun Corps and slept under one on 14th September 1916 on the night before they were first used. I'm doing D24 and D25 which supported 50th (Northumbrian) Division as I think they are the most likely candidates. I have a little figure to represent him! 2

My Dad served in No.2 coy Rifle Brigade during WWII in Italy. I always wanted to do a large scale Bren gun carrier model that he drove for a while there.
sallee Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Italy? That can't have been fun. It is good to be able to think of it human terms. I don't know what grandpa can have thought of those tanks when he saw them! Must have been quite hard ground. I think some people were killed under them while taking a nap because they slowly settled into soft ground. Not a nice thought.
Smouch Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 The fortress I was working on nose dived onto concrete whilst I was trying to lay the top coat down Bit of damage to the nose, not sure what it looks like inside. Too scared to look. I'll get back to it and see if it can be repaired. Anyway here is what I have started on in the meantime... 1

My Dad didn't talk about his war experiences with me until his later years. He always thought we were not interested...and I suppose we were not until I was much older. Italy in the The winter of 1944 ,I think it was, was no fun indeed as he was wounded covering a retreat from Tossingano after being pushed out by Waffen SS. But at least he got a MM and a letter from the King for his deeds and I will always be proud of what he did there. But yes your grandpa in the trench warfare of WWI must of been some really tough conditions and a different kind of warfare also. Edited June 12, 2017 by voncrapenhauser 3
sallee Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 You don't get a Military Medal for nothing. I should think you are proud. Rightly so. Grandpa was at Galipoli, but not at the beginning, then out to Egypt then back in time for the Somme, but not at the beginning of that so he missed the worst of them both. He went over the top at the Ancre and was nearly blown to pieces. Lucky to survive. I have his records including his medical records from the army which are not nice reading. He showed me his wounds when I was about 9. I don't know why me! No fun, war. 1
STN Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 1:72 He 178 V1, Special Hobby.I hoped for a nice and easy build of few parts to get started again. Nope.... nope, nope, nope... I think I will just shove it somewhere very deep in my vitrine and never speak about it again :D 4
sallee Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Lucky you. That would be near the front of my vitrine.
Feathered_IV Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Nearly there! Made the turret guns, then masked and painted the glazing. Only a few more things left to do like barrels for the brownings, seat and harness, plus a bit of weathering. Pretty happy with it as a first try at scratchbuilding. Edited August 19, 2017 by Feathered_IV 7
voncrapenhauser Posted June 25, 2017 Author Posted June 25, 2017 Spectacular results there Feathered. Very impressive weather it be a first scratch build or not. I doff my hat to you sir.
STN Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Finally got to start a nice kit, where the parts actually fit together 3
STN Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Yes. Ju-188E. Still deciding with which camo I will go. Probably the "snakes" one.
STN Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Some progress has been made. I must say, it is a beauty. 3
Feathered_IV Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Looks like I've been hit by the photobucket extortion scheme.
unreasonable Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Indeed: "All your pics are belong to us". Direct link to PC - or something like https://postimages.org/ ? 1

What do we do about this thread as there is a lot of pics gone , i can go back and redo all of mine but that is a pain and i don`t have time at the moment, Maybe start a fresh thread & everyone shows off there builds from the past few years or something similar, just a thought.... nothing worse than looking through a topic and half the pics are missing... back to downloading all my stuff from photocrapit..
STN Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Well in that case, is it necessary to start a new thread? Not that I mind, but wouldn´t it suffice, to just add a few posts with plenty of pictures You pick by choice from Your collection?

Excuse me I,m old and not with the whole photobucket facebook or any other problematic sites I hear about. I just upload my pics directly, surely that's the easiest way. Then can you not be held to ransom huh? I do not know, please correct me if I am wrong? Update on my E type build as it stands, Decided to paint engine as it is not correctly painted as delivered.. Nice TA152 and Mig BTW . Edited July 16, 2017 by voncrapenhauser 2
Buglord Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Von the detail on the that jag engine is uber m8 You know what von after what you said i went and checked something, i use chrome and i could not see the attach files button so i fired firefox up and hey the button is there... i feel like a dick now lol i never knew that was there if i did i would of uploaded them straight away..... your not the only one feeling old migrating to firefox now as i was having problem with the flash player on chrome anyway.. So thank you von for making me realise what the hell was going on with this... and the fact i feel still stupid lol
Buglord Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Tiger 1 Michael Wittmann Winter 43, This is an experiment with heavy weathering as ive not done this kind of weathering on a tank before. I used various mig pigments to achieve this and for the paint i used the salt method which again ive never tried before but was happy with the results. so here you go a beat up tiger . Photos courtesy of Vons knowledge . Edited July 16, 2017 by Buglord 5
unreasonable Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 The Tigger looks great - but a question, not rhetorical, I really do not know the answer: does iron/steel rust that much during sub zero temperatures?
Buglord Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I did not know myself until i looked it up , some say it should slow it down but it depends on the conditions i suppose, i just wanted to see how far i could go with the beat up look . Im working on a desert crusader mk1 at the moment and this will be a light weather build.

The Jag engine detail was already there, just the chrome and alloy parts just do not ever look scale, nothing a little Tamiya smoke cannot sort out (makes old chrome look like old chrome really dose irl).. Some accurizing on the colours of the engine block ie Engine block in black and cylinder head in gold (I Know this as I spent the past 30 odd years working on cars and still do for a living). voncrapenhauser Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) Awesome Tiger Bug I love the weathering and rust. Untreated steel will start to corrode almost immediately, next time you wash your car and get you brake discs wet look at them after a few minutes, unless you live in a very dry climate. So any chipped paint down to bare metal will almost certainly, In my experience. As bug says "it all depends on conditions", Humidity and so fourth. But still way cool Tiger there Bug. Always did like that type of camo scheme STN , Raecher looking good.. Edited July 20, 2017 by voncrapenhauser 1
