Smouch Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Got it in one Feathered I have had a bit of a soft spot for that little kite. Especially what she did later in the war. It's Eduard kit #8290 and will be done in the SD all black colours. 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) I'm very fond of the Lizzie too. I've got a 1/144th scale resin one in my stash that is hopefully going to see my scalpel one of these days. I've been working on improving another of those gashapon kits from Japan. This one is the Kawanishi N1K1-Ja Shiden. Lots of filling and sanding to get the panel lines reduced. Ground down and reshaped the canopy of a Bandai Shiden-Kai to replace the stock one and give me a chance to get it into the open position. The overall shape and accuracy of the kit is pretty amazing for its size though. It just needs a bit of filing and scraping to get the edges looking in-scale. I cleaned and reassembled my airbrush today before spraying the upper colour green and ID bands. Pretty happy with how smoothly it came out considering the size of the little beastie. Next step will be decals, replacement spinner & prop, gun barrels and undercarriage etc. etc. Below are a few shots next to the obligatory matchstick for scale. Buglord Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 what airbrush are you using , good looking results.
carts Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Bloody Hell,That,s fantastic,Your eyesight must be Excellent.
Feathered_IV Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like it so far! My eyesight isn't so great anymore, but I have some fairly nifty magnification to help me fake it. My airbrush is a cheap Chinese double action type with a .25mm tip fitted. I used Mr colour lacquers with about 50/50 Tamiya thinners and Mr Retarder to thin the paint out and slow its drying time. Pressure was about 25PSI I think. Prior to that I'd rubbed back the primer with 1400 grit paper and plenty of water and detergent to get a smooth surface. 1
sallee Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Either that's a bloody big matchbox or that's a miracle of micro-modelling. Excellent as usual.
Mustang_45 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Very nice results! Working on such a small scale model must present its own set of challenges!
Feathered_IV Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Thanks! 1/144 scale definitely feels very different to other scales. Many of the most popular techniques do not work well at that scale, and the tolerances are a lot finer. A single careless pass with a file or sanding block can completely alter the shape of a cowling or fuselage. A bit of putty or speck paint that would be insignificant in 1/48 can make or break a kit in 144th. And panel lines routinely need to be all but erased, which takes a lot of time.
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I am jealous of skills and your handy-work. I have tried models before but I have a slight tremor and I can't hold my hands steady enough to do these little detailed models. I have been working on a lego Yak-9 though, which I may show soon. It's basically a frame right now.
carts Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I really need to get back to building aircraft, but I'm really stuck in a Aliens phase at the moment These are my latest efforts. Halcyon power loader with re-painted\filled Neca figures. With mask And without BTW hope its Ok clogging up an aviation forum with this stuff Andy 6
Buglord Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 You can clog up what you want with quality work like that m8.... Uber work..... 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) Nice one carts. Fabulous job on Bishop and the Predator especially. Making progress with my 1/144 Shiden too. Finally got it sitting on its undercarriage and am starting to get the fine details on. Hopefully it will be done by Christmas. Plus my 1941-44 Japanese coins just arrived in the post and I thought I'd add one for effect. Edited August 19, 2017 by Feathered_IV 5
Smouch Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Looking good Feathered. My Lysander is where I would call it done, except when I went to add the dull coat and found the can to be empty Pics soon...
sallee Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 WIP. Advancing veeery slowly. Looking good, STN. Nice subject as well. Feathered. That is exquisite. Fantastic work.
Smouch Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Calling it done. Sadly once I removed the tape from the clear parts I discovered that I had managed to get a bit of CA glue on the right hand side of the front of the cockpit But anyway, here she is. 1 3
STN Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 BMW 003. Added a few wires so it does not look so naked. 2
STN Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Finally finished. Heinkel 162A-2, W.Nr.120072, yellow 3, Gerhard Stieme, 1. Staffel JG1, Leck airfield, May 1945 1:72 Dragon 1 4
sallee Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Lovely, STN. Really lovely. Always had a soft spot for that weird aircraft. My father bought me one in 1/72 from the local newsagent (can you imagine that?) when I was about 12.
STN Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Thanks. I must say I am glad it is finished. These old Dragon kits are getting the best of me. Nevertheless I must say that for such an old kit it is remarkably detailed. Funny thing is- I had trouble finding one of these on ebay for a normal price. Today I went to pick up the new B-17G from Airfix at a local model kit shop and as I was looking around- there is one Dragon He 162 sitting right there on a shelf. Couldn´t believe my eyes :DAnyway- You were lucky to be able to get Your hands on these kind od kits back then. All we could get were crappy MIGs from Kovozavody Prostejov plus a few basic colours named UNICOL :D
Cybermat47 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I've always wondered how the Salamander pilot was supposed to eject with that massive jet engine behind them!
Feathered_IV Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 He used the ejector seat. Beautiful work STN. Gem-like precision.
Major_Issue Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Bachem Natter, pretty sure! Hmm.. Dragon 48 scale?
Feathered_IV Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Looks like it. The 349 has that cruciform headrest and flat-pack naughty chair. One of my favourite oddities. Looking forward to seeing it progress!
STN Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 You got it right again. It is the Bachem Ba 349 "Natter". However the scale is again 1:72. I was really looking forward to this build.
Major_Issue Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Ui, magnificent. So I assume it's the Bren Gun Kit?
Cybermat47 Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 He used the ejector seat. I know, but wouldn't they still get sucked in?
STN Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Ui, magnificent. So I assume it's the Bren Gun Kit? Yes, it is Brengun. Plus the detail set.
Cybermat47 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Damn, I've always loved the look of the Natter!
sallee Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 That is a lovely piece of work. Any more of Germany's weird and wonderful in the pipeline?
STN Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Yes, there is one left in my stash. But with the next project I will be traveling backwards in time to 1929.
