cmorris975 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Hey all, I've got a good general foundation on computers having grown up with them and also working tech support jobs 20 years ago. But I'm way behind the curve when it comes to modern gaming systems. I've been trolling around the internet for a good solution in order to up my specs to run VR better in Il-2. This is my favorite option that I've found: https://www.microcenter.com/product/611241/powerspec-b743-desktop-computer It's seems like a really affordable upgrade to my old Dell 6700k that I have listed in my signature. This Dell is super annoying with its resistance to being upgraded and the proprietary parts, etc.. I'd immediately transplant my 1070 ti into the new machine and let the girlfriend have my old 6700k. Biggest downside that I can see is that the motherboard will not take the new 10700k processor. That and the power supply is a little anemic. I'd replace the SSD as my second upgrade but the 500 GB will get me by for now. First upgrade would be a CPU cooler probably? Do you see any potential issues with this Powerspec? I think it might be a pretty good deal. I mean, I'm more or less trapped inside due to this COVID thing so I figure I might as well play around with Il-2 VR and modding this new computer a bit. I've been enjoying all the tweaking I've been doing and learning all the various overclocking tools, but I think the 2133 RAM + 6700k with stock cooler is just going to hold me back. Thanks! Chris
kuk111 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Just the CPU, MB and windows would cost 650 on Newegg, so I’d say a good deal. You can swap out stuff later like you said. 1
Bernard_IV Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 Not bad assuming that board will overclock well. The Ram might not be that great because the low latency 3200 CL14 stuff is $150, it might be CL16.

Alonzo Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 9700K is plenty, as long as it'll overclock. Might be worth phoning them, I know some YouTubers really like Microcentre, maybe they can help you tweak it. You're looking for overclocking potential, so you probably want a decent cooler on that CPU. That said, the recent IL2 patch has massively boosted performance, so you don't need a 5ghz processor any more. The 9700K with a reasonable overclock will work great. 1
