New warbird pilot here with TM Warthog and i picked up BoB and am having a blast in the P-51, (now I've figured out the slightly oddball steamVR setup, with help from the forums).

My next issue is learning the planes limits in terms of pitch and roll.  This thing goes into a flat spin so easily when i pull a few g's in dogfight practice.  I can get out of most spins buy man alive, i must be doing this wrong or else my HOTAS needs some curves added or saturation / sensitivity  decreased or something.

I don't want any deadzones as my stick is fine with no centre play, etc, (thanks Nyogel), but i cant pull 100%deflection or the P-51 just departs like a drunk hitting fresh air.

Any other WH owners tamed this thing?

It's not your joystick, the P-51 is known for its snap stall with very little warning.

It can be overcome with practice, muscle memory, and listening for the "gunport whistle", which when you hear it, you know it's time to relax the Gs as a stall is imminent.

Being able to use 100% deflection is going to be situational at best.

Too much control input too quickly can cause an accelerated stall. With an accelerated stall you can be well above stall speed, but your control inputs will disrupt the airflow and stall the airframe regardless. Warbirds require smooth control inputs.

Also with the P-51 you don't want a 100% fuel load if you are dicing it up in a turn fight. There is a tank behind the pilot that throws off the center of gravity. It is great for range, but if you fight before it is empty, you will have a hard time with departures (stalls/spins). If you are practicing with 100%, try dropping to 70% and see how she handles.

Cheers!

Reduce fuel load so the tank behind the cockpit is empty.  Reduce stick sensitivity all the way in the keybind option list.  Listen to the gun port whistle.  Take it easy, you are already able to pull more G forces than the enemy planes.  You see a ton of players black out and crash when you are fighting them in the Mustang.

Use standard gun sight, it has slip indicator in it, keep the ball in the center and you will greatly reduce your spins.  Adjust your curves in Axis for Pitch/Roll that will help too.
