That is what I do.

Also agree to set "Sharpen" on.

I run SS at 1.2 in Oculus Tray Tool and get very good performance and nice image quality.

Would OC's INI SS setting override OTT SS setting? Or the other way around?

Not sure - I would only do one or the other though.  Only feature I used with Open Composite was to replace Steam VR for running my Oculus devices in.

I have IL2 Steam version + OpenComposite app specific install. I run the game by launching the .exe file directly. Oddly, in the game I can't use any BoS aircraft (BoM, BoK, & BoBP) are fine. When I try to it says "The files are missing or corrupted". Any ideas?

Perhaps verify the game files in Steam?

Thank you, tried, but did not help :(

Ok I figured it out with the help of the support - if I have a Steam version, I have to launch it via Steam for BoS content to work. Previously I could not launch it from Steam after replacing the vr dll, but somehow it works now.

Did you add an "opencomposite.ini" file with a single line "enableAudio=False" in your [Il-2 BoX]\bin\game directory (same folder you installed the .dll) ?

I had to do that for IL-2 to work with open composite.

Thanks for that. Direct replacement of the openvr_api.dll with the 64bit version and then putting in that ini file tip got it working.

I'm a convert to opencomposite.

To get mine to work, I downloaded the 64-bit dll, created an "opencomposite.ini" file with one line: "enableAudio=False", and put both in the [Il-2 BoX]\bin\game directory. (I renamed the original dll to preserve it just in case). I then ran the game in non-VR mode, selected Enable VR in the graphics menu, restarted the game, and it all worked except sound was now in my speakers not the headset.

Changing the ini file to enableAudio=True didnt work at all (game didnt run) but selecting the Rift in the Windows Sound menu did.

Very impressed at the fps boost - I'm now playing 8v8 quick missions and fps stays at 80 almost all the time, whereas before it would dip down to 40.

Question: is it possible to add other lines to the .ini to specify stuff like the supersampling (I'm not using OTT yet)?

EDIT: found my answer here

Does anyone know how to make the audio switch from Windows default to headset on game start?

With 'enableAudio=False' it doesn't switch, and if you enter anything else (True, On, etc) then IL2 wont start at all.

Solved it myself: the answer is to use the system-wide install, then it all works great, audio included, without any opencomposite.ini file at all. With it working by default, you can then add an opencomposite.ini file with an entry such as 'supersamplingRatio=1.1' if you wish.

And here we go again.

I've been running OpenComposite with IL-2 using the system-wide install option. Worked fine. Bought Tank Crew and have spent all afternoon getting the hang of it. Went to have dinner, came back, started the game... and it started SteamVR! I've opened, checked and re-checked that OC is set as the method for ALL VR games, as well as specifying it for IL-2 and it still auto-starts SteamVR the moment I start the sim. I've deleted and reinstalled OC, still starts SteamVR. Re-downloaded, still starts SteamVR.

I don't understand how it can work for hours in a row through multiple restarts (I was playing with game settings), and then not work two hours later despite nothing having changed and despite nobody touching my PC! This is damn frustrating, to say the least.

Is there a good YouTube guide to install Open Composite and configure it for IL2? I'm still super confused on setting it up, and really want to get a nice free fps boost.

No, because whichever method you choose the "install" process is literally five seconds long. The incredibly simple instructions are located on the same page as the download, which you can find here. Ignore everything after the "Downloading and Installation" section because unless you have an issue, you won't need to mess with a configuration file.

very very easy:

1.Download this: https://znix.xyz/OpenComposite/download.php?arch=x64

2.Rename original openvr_api.dll to have a backup  (for me:  SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game)

3.Insert the downloaded openvr_api.dll to SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game

4.Run from steam (as in SteamVR mode)

5.If it does not run , create  a file opencomposite.ini in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game

6.add one line in the opencomposite.ini file:  enableAudio=False

7.Run from steam (as in SteamVR mode)

Now the game should start and SteamVR should be off.

And I am pretty sure I have 10 FPS extra since yesterday btw.

Is anyone seeing an advantage to Open Composite use these days now that OpenXR Oculus runtime is directly usable in SteamVR??

Hmm, I haven't checked actually.

I'm happy with the way Open Composite works, but I might check it sometime.

Also wanted to post here to mention to people who use a mod manager for IL2.

Within your MOD folder, Make an OpenComposite folder, create a "Bin" folder inside that and then a "Game" folder within that.
Place the openvr_api.dll and the opencomposite.ini into this folder.

Now you can toggle it on and off, or if you have to do an integrity check or reinstall via steam (which replaces the openvr_api.dll file)

I use OvGME as my Mod manager.

I tried to use open composite without SteamVR installed.

I am using Quest2 with Virtual Desktop.

Both system wide and by copying openvr_api.dll

I always get the error "cannot create DX texture swap chain" (in the screenshot).

Has anyone had this happen ?

Please let me know

I think that's impossible

Pretty sure you need steam installed and if you have it installed you don't need open composite anymore you can just use Oculus Runtime OpenXR for Steam VR which is newer and supported and seems just as fast as open composite was for me.

I haven't used Virtual desktop in a long time because many of us get a warped gauges view when tilting head that hasn't been fixed.  That problem doesn't exist using Link or Air Link which work well.

I made this video that will show you how to play IL2 on quest2 with SteamVR if you'd like to try it that way.

Thank you. In AirLink I do not get 360 view. I don't know what affects it. The view looks like as if I have a window in front me into the 3D world which moves as I move my head.

I've been tolerating the warped gauges. Virtual Desktop works well for me in DCS.

In air link you are looking at the desktop of the mirror of the game to the desktop.

You need to switch into the game

I think the left controller has a button that switches between game and desktop on Quest...
