MattS Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Anybody have random tips that they have found to be helpful in this game - controls etc.? After getting chewed out by the ground crew for raising my gear on the ground a few times, I've set my controller button to only be "Gear Down". To raise the gear I have to Ctrl+Shift+z (z by itself to lock/unlock tailwheel). Made it virtually impossible to raise the gear by accident!
Leon_Portier Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) Switch tail wheel lock and gear up/down keys around. Improved my taxiing a lot! Edited May 25, 2020 by [N.O.G.F]Leon_Portier 1
TAIPAN_ Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Map multiple controls to the same button to save buttons on your HOTAS when they are not shared by any aircraft: Supercharger Mode / Manual Prop Pitch mode / Me262-Ignition Boost / Blip / Airbrake (and stuka siren) Tail wheel lock / Reload Guns Mixture and Altitude throttle (Fokker DVIIf) Water radiator and Cowl Outlets Pitch trim and German Stabilizer RPM control and prop pitch There's a few more obscure ones when it comes to gunsight adjustments etc too 1 2
Talisman Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 NAVIGATION TIP When navigating, place mouse curser on your position on map and close map. Don't touch mouse again, so when you open map next time your last known position is marked on the map by your mouse curser. Having your last known position marked on the map helps you quickly find your new current location and you once again put your mouse curser on your new position and close the map. Happy landings, Talisman 1 2
RedKestrel Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 (edited) Re-bind your 'save head position' key from F10 to something that requires two key presses. That will stop you from accidentally pressing F10 and saving your head position looking backwards, or set far down in your cockpit. It's frustrating even if you know what happened, and lots of beginners think it is a TrackIR bug or something rather than a setting in a game file. For MP Players: To use the team chat, you have to do the following: Press ENTER to open the chat box, type in your phrase, and then press ENTER to send to everyone or hold down CTRL and hit ENTER to send to just your team. Opening the chat box with CTRL-Enter does not engage team only chat, you have to use it when you choose to send the message! Also, you cannot re-bind the chat message buttons! If you try and set ENTER to send as team chat, it will not work. The game will show it as rebound but it will not matter, it does not work, it cannot be re-bound. At least once a play session someone on the team chat will send intel to the enemy team because they pressed the wrong button, and they will say they are sure they re-bound the key or that they did use CTRL-Enter. 99.9% of the time they have made one of the above mistakes. [CV]Biggs Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 This is gonna sound so stupid obvious......... Figure out at what range you can comfortably hit your target. And then set the convergence of your guns to that range. Take a P-38: 4-50's and a 20mm is devastating when they converge. When bombing: When you think you are close, get closer. Just don't get destroyed by your own blast. Know the enemy aircrafts capability. If you can't outrun/out-turn them, then break off and get better position. Learn this, live this: Dicta Boelcke 1. Try to secure advantages before attacking. If possible, keep the sun behind you.2. Always carry through an attack when you have started it.3. Fire only at close range, and only when your opponent is properly in your sights.4. Always keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses.5. In any form of attack it is essential to assail your enemy from behind.6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try to evade his onslaught, but fly to meet it.7. When over the enemy's lines never forget your own line of retreat.8. For the Staffel (squadron): Attack on principle in groups of four or six. When the fight breaks up into a series of single combats, take care that several do not go for the same opponent.[6] 1
Velxra Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) Bind the sun visor key to your tail lock key. Then every time the tail wheel is unlocked the visor will pop up to remind you. Edited June 16, 2020 by Geronimo553 4
