New to game

I don't have a clue as to how this game works. I launch the game and it downloads 6GB of "the game" which take s at least an hour. I thought I already downloaded the game? Can't get my controllers to to pick up my views on the 8 way hat, only 0, 90 180 270. I'm using a warthog stick, and I guess I have to write a special "something" to assign my buttons to the functions I want. What does that look like and where do I put it. Is there a controller tutorial some where I can use as a model for HID data?

The game looks great but I am an Aces High alumni, with that point of reference, so I'm not too incompetent but I am 68 years old and a little slow. Please point me towards any basic "show me" stuff. My Dab was Naval aviator in WW2 and Korea, so I grew up on this stuff and I love it. Just need some direction and guidance.

Thanks Thad,

I'll take your direction and run with it. It seems most of the visual input is VR centric, I'll have to bone up on that. I have a nice big monitor @ 120 hz so my #1 priority is my stick, rudder and throttle set-up.
