That update causes dimming backlight issues with several revisions of 5K+ headsets at 90Hz, if you look at the thread to it. That cannot be easily reversed.

I recommend holding off until a patch for that / next update has been pushed.?

P.S. Performance is best with 254a, without any microstutter issues. Better than on the new PiTools, especially for RTX2080ti users! The new PiTools do not fully utilize the GPU - they stay between 70-80% usage. The Catalyst function also leads to strong stutters for many. On some systems there have been memory leaks reported when using older revisions like 2026 with 254a. But there is a fix if that happens:

Run IL-2 in windowed mode directly from PiTool. If you're in flight and if the game starts to stutter after an hour or two, press Alt-Tab twice to have your system reassign focus and also memory! It fixes it (Win10)!

We see what they bring to the table with the next version - looks like they are looking into the back light brightness issue on those models of the 5K that are affected.

For me it is a keeper and there is also the GPU Catalyst slider if you want to push the GPU envelope.

Always wise to run windowed mode with VR, allows easy exiting a misbehaving app - I run at native monitor res windowed mode and ALT-TAB as required.

Caveat - always wise to read what others experience before going ahead. ?

Yeah indeed. The GPU catalyst slider doesn't work for RTX2080ti users -> You get heavy frametime jumping at anything above 0. But 0 gives very low GPU utilization. Until that thing is fixed, I won't upgrade as it means you lose a lot of frames - up to 20fps less. Instead of achieving 90Hz constant, it runs at 70fps. I can't recommend that, it doesn't matter that the GUI is more fancy and less buggy, doesn't make up for it to be honest.

With Pimax, it's a good idea to always check reactions of others first and what they point out, before pressing any upgrade button.

Use 259 game

And turn on the smart use 144HZ projection

Permanent 72HZ

WOL hit fall in three enemy aircraft RTB

During the chase did not find any ghosting, smooth like 90HZ

The only problem is that GPU card usage at 75%

Fix for the awful screen dimming issue -

Reinstall pitool 144, in which the screen backlight setting has not been removed - select "High" in the backlight setting,  then go back to pitool 259 - it works!!!

Do you have a link to 254a?

I now can't find where to get old versions of pitool

It's not a solution, it does not work for all 5K+ serial numbers.

Check my sticky thread in the VR forums here, or via my signature. The link is in there ;)

Thankyou - your sticky advice was very helpful and detailed - I have installed 254a as you described - performance and resolution are much better with your settings.

I still recommend keeping hands off of version 259 and the new FW.

Older PiTool versions like 144 do not recognize newer 5K+ headset versions. Only some SN204 are recognized, but only at 90hz and only if you're lucky as "false positives".

The 5K+ SN204 was introduced to PiTool since December 2019. That was somewhere around PiTool version 249 or something. The Brightness selector was long gone by then, as you can tell. ? That is why this is only a solution to some. So yeah, it's no joke that they pushed out such a buggy PiTool. I am certain they'll fix that bug in the next one. Another solution, but one that would work for every version, is to flash the Firmware back manually.

Well, you can tell, this is why I would recommend keeping hands off this version in general.

I have an SN203. I put in #144B, changed the brightness setting and then installed #259. The brightness had returned and all is well. Here you can find links to older versions but do remember that as with all things Pimax, your mileage may vary.

Thank you for your help . I'll try it today, I'll let you know how it turned out. Otherwise, on the latest version I'm going for a 144 Hz picture is nice only the game often crashes and when run directly from Pitool IL2 it announces error messages at the end of the game. I do not recommend the latest version at all, it is not tuned.

No, môžete povedať, prečo by som odporučil udržať ruky z tejto verzie všeobecne.

Hi, the problem is that when you update to a new version, even after the flash firmware, the screen stays dark. I switched to older firmware, but nothing has changed in the image, and that's the problem that even a return to older firmware won't help.

If you have the PT259 update installed, the screen will be dark at 90Hz and older PT versions and cannot be removed otherwise only by the following procedure:

In the PT295 version set to 90Hz, restart the headset.

Turn off the headset and uninstall the PT295, including the Pimax and Pitool subdirectories in AppData / Local, LocalLow, Roaming

Manually update firmware version 263 via DFU

Install PT v.144

Turn on the headset and set the brightness to high and be careful, but you need to set the PT to 90Hz, then save everything

Turn off and uninstall PT version 144 including AppData directories and install version 254a

Then the brightness will be fine

Do not install PT version 259 or firmware update if you do not want to have problems.

Useful to know, thanks.
