AuburnAlumni Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 (edited) I've got an 8700k, 1080Ti Oculus Rift S setup. Using MSAA, SS at 1.4 on Oculus Tray Tool and using Open Composite. I'm blown away by this update, both in the lighting and performance. Started with a P-38 dogfight against some 109s. The cockpit of the P-38 with the new lighting looked absolutely phenomenal. My FPS was a rock solid 80 FPS the entire fight....not one stutter..not one drop with 8 aircraft in the sky. Flew another one on Arras in a Spad vs Albatross, took down the Albatross then went on a few strafing runs of some German convoys. Yet again...rock solid FPS the entire flight...down low near the ground and trees..up high..didn't matter. Flew another one as a FW190 A-8 attacking 2 flights of B-25s. 16 aircraft on Rheinland Summer...80 FPS the whole way. I don't know what they did, but I am super impressed. Visuals are oustanding and FPS is dream like. Well done IL-2 team. Edited May 21, 2020 by AuburnAlumni 1 1
SR-F_Winger Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 My warranty replaced index should hopefully soon be on its way so i can try out this new update, Simply cannot go back to 2d monitors after VR only once. Hope i can find the same performance gains. Thanks for your impression. 1

As a sidenote, is there any difference to setting SS in OTT instead of using an opencomposite.ini with supersampleRatio=1.4 in it?
kuk111 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Also super impressed been beautiful flying and solid FPS :) Auburn you and i have the same PC setup can you show me your game settings for comparison? My 8700k is set to 4.7 on all cores and no AVX offset (light i know, but i like stable) Day one with the update went with 4x MSAA and no Super Sampling. Looked amazing and smooth but would like to tinker around today after work. I use OpenC and all that jazz. Unsure. Because there are so many moving parts, I tend to use OTT "HUD" set to "show pixel density" if I have been messing with supersample, just to make sure I got the result I really wanted. There was a time when SteamVR and OTT applied stacking multipliers, that was fun (game looked amazing but performed like shit at pixel density 2.0!).

I have been using Open Composite for quite some time and was not even aware one could adjust SS with it.

Learn something new everyday on the road to tweaking VR So you could have up to 3 programs running SS at same time. Glorious!

I flew 2 quick mission dogfights today on my lunch...both with 2 full flights on either side (P51s/P47s vs 109s/FW190s) on Rheinland Summer and kept my FPS ticker on the entire time. I'd say in both, 95% of the time the ticker stayed at 79 or 80. On initial contact with the enemy flights engaging...it dipped down to 63 for about 2 seconds then shot back up to 77-79. Even with several of the aircraft burning, smoke plumes, etc...FPS never took that typical tank I experience where it drops to 43, 38, etc. That's with 16 planes on screen. In 1 on 1 or 4 on 4 I haven't seen any dips at all past maybe less than a second. Edited May 21, 2020 by AuburnAlumni
Talon_ Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 This cfg is shadows completely off? Is that not thoroughly immersion breaking?

Day one of a large update like this I add features one at a time to gauge FPS effects. But I can tell you the game is still beautiful and immersive even off haha
HunDread Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 13 hours ago, Talon_ said: This cfg is shadows completely off? Is that not thoroughly immersion breaking? It's not bad. I've been playing with shadows off for years now as they are quite FPS hungry. I don't feel anything is missing at all. If I had been playing with shadows and had to turn them off now probably that would be different.
