Non-AMD Graphics Issue Following 4.006 Patch

Hello,

Problem: Since the 4.006 patch, I have had issues with the graphics detail level moving from low to high randomly while in the game. The detail movement is not associated with a noticeable drop in FPS (less than 3 FPS). When first spawning in, the graphics are generally very low.  If I move to an outside view, the detail may move up to a higher level.  I do not believe I have seen the landscape return fully to the level that I have set in the settings. When moving the camera around the aircraft, the detail level may vary randomly - and the same goes for viewing the aircraft from the outside.

Attempted Solutions (unsuccessful):

  • Updated graphics drivers
  • Multiple game restarts
  • Switched between FXAA and MSAA
  • Changed "Dynamic resolution factor" from 1.0 to 0.5
    • This is the first time I have seen this option, but I did not notice it in the patch notes.  It seems a good bet on being the culprit - is my detail dropping as a faulty response to slight FPS drops?
  • Run game with Full screen on/off
  • Run game with HDR on/off

System:  GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (Direct X 12), Intel i5-6500 @ 3.20Ghz, 16 GB ram, Windows 10

Well, you just named it. With a resolution factor* of 0.5 you will get this phenomenon, because on the ground on a airfield there is much more objects to render. So

with this factor, you tell your game to lower the resolution down to 50%. This is not necessary with the graphic card you have.

* Dynamic resolution factor is not new and was already introduced in 3.000 or something around.

Then there are some other settings of your graphic setup, that may cause some performance hit. Here are your settings:

Arrow = my suggestions concerning performance and spotting

RED = not so good.

- Dynamic resolution factor should be 1.0

- Shadow quality on ultra is only eye-candy and you have no benefit except it eats a lot of FPS. Set it to high or medium

- Mirror set to complex is also taxing FPS wise - go down to medium. Essential here is you can spot someone sneaking on your six.

- Distant landscape detail - it's up to you finally, eats a lot of your VRAM, you won't spot better.

- Horizon draw distance - set it to 100 km, it's enough and you don't load your VRAM too much.

- HDR/SSAO is too much taxing if you ask me and finally not that sexy.

GREEN = good

- Fullscreen - tick it because you have already capped your FPS to 60.

- Landscape filter - set it to blurred, it will help you in spotting, especially low flying enemies

- Sharpen - this is also very good and highly recommended to help spotting and to harmonize the whole rendering.

So, it's up to you. Finally it is your gusto and your game play. But, get rid of that bloody Dynamic Resolution Factor of 0.5! This is definitively

causing your issue observed.

Cheerio

Thank you for the explanation and recommendation! I found a combination of settings which solved this problem. I believe the root cause was the game defaulting to FXAA after the update, which led to the other issues.
