Cannot bind "Show/hide ESC menu" function

This is something that has been bothering me lately. A bit of background, I built a sim pit where I no longer have access to a keyboard. But, there an option in the KeyBinding menu > Service that allows your to bind a joystick key to do the same as if your pressed the escape key ("Show/hide ESC menu"). I tried to bind it but it works on none of my devices. For the moment I have had to bind the "Escape" key function to my throttle via an external software that emulates keystrokes (Joy2key), but it's obviously not ideal.
