This is so greatly appreciated Jason. Something is wrong though with the regular non-zoomed view on some headsets. Everything looks warped in my Odyssey +

That said, I'm confident you guys will figure it out. I'm very grateful that you have give us this zoom!

I hope you saw my screens above, have not tried with latest drivers though......reluctant to because I have solid performance with 19.10.1 but would if I have to of course.....good luck with this.

Rift user and no problems with the new zoom at all.  Works very well indeed. Big :salute: to the devs!

Hi Vortice

I always had Nvidia cards, and was pleased with them.

A few years ago when my last Nvidia card was due for replacement, the guy in my local PC store said try the RX480, mid range card, but good performance.

I hesitated but went for one in the end,and I must say for the price it performs well.

But I think your right ,seems driver support can be lacking...............but up to now I have got on well with it....the latest fun is making me wonder though!!!

A 30... series Nvidia card next maybe....we will see.

Hi, SirFlappy,

Can you add your latest results to the AMD Troubles in 4.006 thread, please?  It may help your issue not get buried here!

Thank you!

Thanks for working on an oficial solution in game for VR zoom and not with a external mod having an open door for cheats.

Yes this is perhaps the biggest thing about this. Great job.

I fixed this by changing the display resolution to 1080p then restarting the game. Not sure if it was the display size that fixed it or just the restart but it all looks fine now.

Damn that zoom is so much better! Thanks team!

I thought that too, but it was placebo for me.  I will take some default head position shots vs VR to compare so I am sure, but ATM it seems like a much reduced fov by default.  At least from all previous versions.  It's like my pilot is hovering right over the stick - shifted forward in his seat.

Thank you for this!

That fixed it. The game needs me to run the window at the native resolution of my monitor. It needs to be 4k for me, anything less and the fishbowl comes back.

my game has reached levels of fluidity most fluids would like to have... ? What sorcery is this?

Some of my squadmates fixed the VR zoom problem by restarting the PC and changing the resolution to 1080p in the display! Test this!

Just a heads up, this is mostly right. But for me 1080p didnt do it. My monitor is 4k and I had to run at 4K to fix it.

Everything great here in VR on an HP Reverb.  No fisheye or worm effect and normal view looks the same as ever.   The zoom is much more powerful and before you use it inside the cockpit you better make sure you really need to because you are going to SEE THE HELL out of each and every gauge!  I mean like one at a time, man!

I let the startup.cfg file revert to stock and then put back in some of the settings I use for VR, like the custom resolution and AA setting stuff, and let the rest of it rebuild from scratch so the or_ca and other optical settings stuff was re-populated on startup. Fired it up and had a great flight.

Good stuff, thank you!

Rift S here!

Everything working fine and new zoom is really nice as i haven't using mods so far.

But please please add old zoom too so we have two zoom levels; old one and this new one!

First stage zoom was helping at spoting ground units better (as they know to disappear) and new zoom will help in ID-ing other planes.

Please make this happen and thank you very much, amount of work you do in such short time is amazing!

S!

I have PiMAX 4K, and I have both 4.006c and 4006d installs. So I've compared and I see no difference buth in hemet and on monitor when zoom is normal. We need to understand what is causing the issue for some of customers.

Not wanting to divert the VR issue I take it you are aware that some ATI users are still messed up (me!) graphically, after the update 4.006d?

No issues with VR zoom, but my GPU frametimes have increased significantly.

I'm going to restart and do more testing but it's a big VR performance drowngrade.

Edit: restarting the computer seems to have addressed most of it.

Hi Han, also responded in your VR question thread.

I had the fisheye on an Odyssey+

it was solved by running the mirrored monitor display of the game at my monitors native resolution (4k)

some others have reported that running at 1080p solved it for them, this didn’t work for me, I assume for those that it worked for, their monitors are 1080p

Its as if some factor is dependant on percentage of native screen resolution used rather than the headsets resolution?

Is it weird that I'm really glad that VR is getting this update, even though I doubt I'll ever use a headset?

Seriously, good work devs, even if there are growing pains this is a massive amount of work in a short amount of time.

It's a flight sim forum, I'm sure we'll find something to bitch about lol.

I have Pimax 5k+ and using FennisWolf settings the current Great Battles is the best performance and best graphics I have ever experienced.

I personally never used the zoom function very much, but the new zoom is very extreme - it works ok if you close one eye, but nevertheless is a bit disorientating.

On balance it is better than it was. Framerates circa 50-60

Windows 10, Nvidia RTX 2080Ti, i7 6700K, 16GB RAM

We need two lvl zoom in VR(old one+new one) so don't worry about it, thread will emerge eventually?

With this new patch, the stutters are gone while flying low level over the Kuban forests. I was getting constant 60FPS but there were periodic stutters, which seem to have been introduced with the new rendering method. Now they are gone.

This! I always got nauseous after some time flying which really spoilt things for me. Now all movements (especially after the 4.006d update) are super fluid and no microstutter - this is honestly something i had waited for for years - so probably this is the best update in the Il-2 series for me personally so far.

No, it's a COMBAT flight sim forum and the members are by their very nature quite combative...…..

I find it best performance and best graphics with no mods whatsoever, its pure natural virgin state is just awesome!

Bravo for responding and improving the VR Zoom and continuing to engage with us on it! Just flew in Berloga and was running at a rock solid 80fps. Just cranked the settings up to get more eye candy!

Yak 9T - bought.

Thanks for listening to the community Jason and team, that is very much appreciated.

This is an excellent post below:

That's a nice step forward, very well, thank you guys for listening to our feedback!!

A quick early solution and a good one in short time - not complete yet though. Please, to complete it:

Some headsets (canted displays and headsets without hardware IPD knob like Reverb) need a zoom-convergence-modifier method in-game. There are no work-arounds, no matter what you read. Please believe it.

Elaboration: Similar to the IPD-modifier method already in-game. So people can dial in the zoom-convergence manually in very small steps. Maybe as a next quick finishing, then the thing is much better. And everybody can dial in his convergence by himself, without the need to find variables for all individual headsets with IPD-dependencies into the mix, etc. Just a simple convergence-modifier like the IPD-modifier can solve all of this. Almost complete!

The rest, like the world feeling a bit sticky with a rotational-speed offset when zoomed in, is just finetuning (or taste) for which you guys would need to be in the Office anyway. That wouldn't be as important imo.

Deferred rendering, baby! Computation has been shifted off the CPU and onto the GPU, enabling faster and more consistent framerates. More fluid, more happy VR users. Yay.

I know we have been very heavy these last weeks, but we needed it, it was vital, for our eyesVR. Thanks for listening to the community and for the extra effort these days from developers, thanks.

I tried the zoom. Works great for me on Oculus Rift S. Perfect amount of zoom to ID at reasonable ranges, zero performance issues or hiccups. Two thumbs up!
