well.. I understand. I was in the middle of playing. Restarted to change the graphics settings and can't join because of the update. :)

I'm grateful, and if it's coming to Steam sometime soon - that's cool!  Just wanted to comment on my situation, no hard feelings :)

Pure awesomeness!

Flew an early morning mission earlier right at sunrise, had some scattered clouds around 10k ft, and it was so dang gorgeous.

Absolutely stunning!!

And I am pretty much maintaining full fps with my Rift S.

Thank you ? It solved it kind of for now :pioneer:

EDIT: The flickering still appears on snow map of Rhineland. I will test the other maps tomorrow. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

To everyone on the dev team A HUGE THANKS!

Just got around to flying it today with the new update and wow. Absolutely love the new gauge reflections and definitely the cockpit reflections as well. I think they are spot on perfect. Just adds yet another layer of the feel real factor!

I'm running a i7 5930k with a 1080ti and Rift S and after restarting my system and overwriting the saved input file it has worked flawlessly! After chasing down P-38's in the Dora I saw this hotfix which is totally on top of things. I wish others dev teams were so awesome!

Yup, new patch is up now. Quick, if you have mods currently installed, take'm off before you update.

1. The Grass can now be set to Off in the game graphics settings. Together with MSAA anti-aliasing option it gives a temporary workaround for AMD video cards until we find a proper solution;

All we need is a "Bloom" check box and we won't need to edit the startup.cfg!

I hope this grass change stays beyond the workaround.

Is it possible to get an update as to whether the DM for TC has been verified as being broken or not?

Though not in the new patch notes - just pointing out that the blue outlining as mentioned in this thread continues (honestly not sure if this was by some sort of design or by-product of new renderer(?)).

If Steam doesn't start an update automatically it means it scheduled it for some convenient (for Steam, not you) time like 4 AM, probably to reduce the load on its servers. At the bottom of Steam window there should be a link 'DOWNLOADS', click it and check what it is saying for IL-2.

Dear customers,

As soon as it was possible we have prepaired a hot-fix for 4.006 which is fixing several major issues. We are still waiting fro response from ATI company support, but there is a temporary solution in this hot-fix for this period.

4.006b change-list:

1. The Grass can now be set to Off in the game graphics settings. Together with MSAA anti-aliasing option it gives a temporary workaround for AMD video cards until we find a proper solution;
2. Technochat can be disabled locally even if it enabled on a multiplayer server;
3. Folding gunsights on several aircraft won't leave the insight lens in place;
4. Various small visual features like rocks added to the ground surfaces on Prokhorovka map (they are visible up close);
5. There is now a hole in La-5FN instrument panel if radio compass isn't installed;
6. IL-2 mod. 1943 canopy glass correctly moves when the canopy is opened;
7. The excessive audibility of 7-8 mm hits on other planes has been corrected;
8. Large ships should be able to enter and exit inland ports like Rotterdam;
9. Wrong tank sounds in multiplayer have been corrected;
10. Wrong switch sounds in tanks have been corrected;
11. Ships visibility at 10+ km has been corrected;
12. Yak-9 and Yak-9T variometer has been corrected;
13. Marder III and Pz.38 should appear less bright in sunny weather;
14. A graphical artifact on Ju-87 fuel gauge has been corrected;
15. Fw 190 D-9 cockpit looks less washed out when viewed from outside.

I think =FEW=Ayamoth deserves a little thank you for suggesting what you just applied to fix the Radeon related issue.

 I've checked the Rhineland snow map and can see it also, its like a heat haze on snow starting perhaps 2/3 of the way to the horizon. I assume that is what you are talking about.

Thank you Hauggy, I'm happy that my quick testing was useful for the Radeon community to keep the game playable untill we'll have an hotfix and maybe providing both devs and Ati teams some good tips to work on a solution!
Anyway I'll like to thank @SCG_Fenris Wolf for his good help in working a solution for the grass glitches

Well if the idea was to make spotting enemy even more hard and less realistic - mission accomplished!

I take that back! With the sky as the backdrop, the view is much improved! Great job! :good:

I think the issue now is with the contrast of the aircraft against the ground (especially at dusk/dawn). I can see trucks on the ground from 3000M/~10,000ft but not the aircraft attaching them. :scratch_one-s_head:

Hmmm, that is odd. My 9 years old i7-2600@4000Mhz does fine. With 4.006 I even got an FPS boost I never expected. GPU is 2xGTX 980 in SLI. Try my settings and look how it goes for you. Maybe that helps. I usually also play with scattered density:

Off in the NV Control Panel will not force the ingame FXAA off, in other words, FXAA on in-game + FXAA off in the control panel will result in using IL2's FXAA as usual.

Thanks to how FXAA is implemented, it can be "stacked" on top of other AA. In simple terms, it is nice to think of it as a simple "filter" to your screen after-the-fact, even if that is a bit of an oversimplification.

Correct NVidia control panel setting always apply after the game AA is applied(or not applied) to enhance in game AA. If AA is not enabled in game in fact Nvidia settings for AA may do nothing (game dependant).Nvidia settings generally only add to or enhance existing AA, but usually the game has to apply some AA first(see below spoiler, for Nvidia control panel info on this ).

Regarding AA and shimmer:

Spoiler

(see description in image below)

image.thumb.png.d3b84dfb634878afb0e4eb1289b7a473.png

If your card can do it MSAA is def a lot better than FXAA , but FXAA/MSAA is supported by pretty much all video cards these days and builtin to the firmware of the GPU. Use FXAA if you use a lower end card (like on most laptops). {BUT note: There is no one correct setting as much depends on your hardware.}

IN graphic settings in game I have found "Landscape filter" set to blurred helps with shimmer (and if applied with a Reshade filter to enhance details works very well)

Also if your hardware can support it supersampling (Antialiasing Transparency AA) is also good to reduce shimmer (but its very intensive form of AA)

thank you, Sneaksie. But I think this was a much more trivial issue. The update started when I was playing Il2. When I restarted it tried to apply it and failed (I believe). So Steam didn't have any more updates for me, but the game wouldn't start claiming I still needed an update. I did the integrity check of the game and Steam re-downloaded the failed files. After that the game started right up!  Learned something new today. :)

I still have the black flickering on winter map Moscow too.

I still have the black flickering also, tested on Stalingrad Winter initially.  Hot-fix installed, Grass OFF, 4x MSAA.  BUT!  The flickering box is considerably smaller and disappears much closer to the ground now.  Screens to illustrate:  The Yak image is from before the hot-fix with grass normal, the P-38 image is from after with grass off.

Had to zoom in much more to see the flickering block, and it was much smaller and far less uniform.  So, turning grass off definitely had an effect on the issue for me!  For reference, this is an RX 5700XT.

So for a workaround, it's an improvement!  Thanks for the quick work, devs!

UPDATE: Flickering block is gone completely on Rheinland Summer!

Also after clicking on Downloads, under each scheduled date on the RHS, there is a little arrow. Mouse over that and it says "Download Now" - it works.  So you do not have to wait until the scheduled date.

I only found this recently - it is one of those "hidden in plain sight" things developers do so that they can say that they give users all the options but nudge most of them into not using them. ;)   I am sure you lot never stoop to such tricks.
