Centering the pilots head

Hi all,

since a few days I have trouble to center the head of my pilot (only in Fokker DR.I!!!). When I join the airfield with my DR.I, the pilot always looks back. I can't center it with the num pad keys, only when I permanently push them.

Need advise.

Thanks in advance

It looks like you've reset your center view.

What are you using to look around, TrackIr or VR  etc ?

Try looking behind you, ignore the view in the game, and then hit F10.  When you face your front again, the view, in game, will be closer to what you should want to see. Continue to fiddle with looking in the wrong direction to the way you want the pilots head to face and hitting F10, until your view matches what you want when you physically face the front again.

Sorry, it's not a perfect way to center view, but it might work until somebody tells you the proper way.

There are couple of options for resetting or otherwise changing your default view;

First option and probably the easiest in my opinion. Your snap views / default views are stored in \data\LuaScripts\snapviews with an SVC file devoted for each aircraft. Also in \data\LuaScripts\snapviews\defaults there are backup SVC files for each aircraft with the games original positions in them. So you can copy paste overwrite the file from the latter to former to restore the games original positions again.

Second option is that you can also just open these SVC files with notepad and edit the positions to your hearts content. The third option, from the manual, is adjusting the position through the game (as Hagar suggests) to try and get something that resembles center again. If you've no desire to edit your snap views within the game in the future and wish to prevent such accidents occurring then recommend unbinding the F10 key.

Quote
  • Adjusting the default head position:
  1. Ensure any head tracking software (such as TrackIR) is disabled.
  2. Make sure you cockpit view is centered by pressing the numpad 5 key (Pilot head: snap position center).
  3. Adjust your camera view to the left and to the right with the Delete (Move pilot head left) and the End keys (Move pilot head right), respectively.
  4. Adjust your camera view forward and backward with the Insert (Move pilot head forward) and the Home keys (Move pilot head backward), respectively.
  5. Adjust your camera view up and down with the Page Up (Move pilot head up) and the Page Down keys (Move pilot head down), respectively.
  6. Once you are satisfied with your changes, press the F10 key (Save current corrections in head snap position). If at any time before this step you want to revert to the default head position, press the numpad 5 key.

I use a small deadzone at the center of my tracking, which nestles into my gunsight nicely making centering (F10) quite easy if it ever gets knocked off.

Also keeps your gunsight view stable when you're scrapping.

Just make sure your tracking is centered before any in-game changes.

Hmm okay I've been thinking about doing that. I use a stable snap view zoom but standard view is unstable through the aldis (rarely do I venture to the dark side) and rely on the give the aldis provides as your head bobbles about. It's more realistic. But ….  it does have its problems in the heat of battle and I feel I'll never win the coveted Snarling Trolls ace of the month trophy.

Always map a button on your head tracking software for a center reset.

Anytime you're misaligned- Boom.  Back on center.

Thanks Broccoli I do that. But when your pulling 10g's (sorry lol) it never quite centres properly unless I'm in level flight. But it's ok I'll fiddle about …. or just accept it as it is.
