Ptolemy_Soter Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Hello fellow pilots, As I checked upcoming BoN plane-set I saw that already existing aircrafts are getting new variants to fit in the new game's timeline. For exemple this will be the case for the Thunderbolt or for the Bf 109 G6. Will more aicrafts of Bondeplatte adapted to Normandy's timeline ? To name but a few this can concerne P 51 D-5, the Spitfire Mk. IXc and IXe with the original tail, or the Tempest with early canons. 1
6FG_Big_Al Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 BoN and BobP will surely benefit from each other. And maybe the Collector planes built after BoN will also fit into this time frame, but I think it's a little bit too early for that. I guess in about 11/2 to 2 years this topic will be interesting again.
CUJO_1970 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) We need early 8th AF. P-47C or early D variants and early P-38E,F,G,H were the backbone of the early 8th AF. We have the older '42 and '43 LW aircraft and the map - but no early 8th AF for them to fight against and now we are assured there is no way to simulate battles with the early 8th AF for years to come. Ptolemy_Soter Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 My point is not te expand ETO plane-set beyond the chronological limits given by the devs. They have choose to add aircraft that flew between D Day and Spring 1945. This is an uninterrupt timeframe and it is a chance. A chance to be able to fly a given number of aircraft without having a gape between variants. To give an exemple it is know quite unrealistic to fly the Spitfire Mk. IXe we have in a June 1944 scenario. It should have its original tail to be able to do so. This idea is different than adding brand new planes that were never modeled in Il-2 Great Battles before. It is possible to start with what we arleady have in order to expand plane-set.

Ptolemy_Soter Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 No doubt but the pointed rudder wasn't so common at this time. It was introduced in 1944 but it took time to reach the front. Even in early 1945 some Mk.IX (with either "c" or "e" wing) still had the old tail unit. This old rudder (quite similar to the one used on Mk.V) is relevant for both games.
HBPencil Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 For what it's worth I too would like some more options for the MkIX to make it more representative of what was common over Normandy. 1
