Begon_Jaune Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 « Fish eye » effect seems to me more problematic and unsightly than positive, and especially with the use of an "IR track". My suggestion would be that it be optional for aficionados. In a cockpit, no camera equipped with a distorting lens, only our sight does not undergo any artifact of this type, the 32/9 approaches natural sight and this effect becomes unsuitable, or counter productive. Thank you for your attention. Cordially. 1
[DBS]Browning Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Zoom in a bit or move closer to your screen and the fish eye will go. It's not a distortion, it's just how the world (real or simulated) looks with a wide FOV.
Begon_Jaune Posted May 17, 2020 Author Posted May 17, 2020 Thanks Browning, ok, i understand the point (it's a 49" and i'm at 80cm from the screen), but when i move my head in a plane, i never see the cockpit with this distortion..., when i'm at 30cm from the screen, i do not feel better... i think the reason why is, with a screen my focus could move over the rignt to the left screen part.... not on reality... (always the view center.. And i stay very curious about a possibility to remove this effect Have a nice day.

In reality when your eyes move the focal point of your view moves with them, but when your eyes move across a screen the focal point of the ingame camera remains static. The only way to remove this "distortion" completely on a 2d screen is via orthographic projection. In this method, the focal point is a 2d plane. However, this gives the significant downside of rendering objects the same size, regardless of their distance from you. It's not at all suitable for IL2.
Begon_Jaune Posted May 17, 2020 Author Posted May 17, 2020 A great thank’s for your lights Browning, i understand better the situation. But until my eyes movements will continue, i will stay unsatisfied... no way... ?

You will always have a fish eye effect in any game. Only multi-screen setups and a game that supports separate rendering per screen will give you a proper wide view with correct geometry across the whole field of view. AFAIK in flight simulators only X-Plane supports it, maybe DCS too but not sure. Many racing sims support separate rendering.
Velxra Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Ultrawide is fine for gaming and doubly so for flight sims. Just keep your eyes center of the screen. If you want a little better clarity try turning the monitor into a double or triple screen. Which most ultrawide monitiors are capable of doing. This will stretch the image a little and help reduce the issue. You will need to spend a little time setting it up though. Hope this helps Edited May 18, 2020 by Geronimo553
cellinsky Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Il2 is not capable of displaying a 32/9 ratio properly without distortion unless you use a ridicoulus small FOV and will see only the hud. I have a 21/9 monitor. Natural fov with this ratio is about 87 degrees. If set to that, I can read the gauges, but only a quarter of the dashboard is displayed. So a tracker is essentiel. But then again, il2 is a zoom-fest anyway, so it does not matter much. Just choose what fits the situation best and focus on the center of the screen. BTW: The only sim I know off that let you correct the distortion on both sides in widescreen with one monitor is Assetto Corsa. 2
Begon_Jaune Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Thank's to all of you. Anyway, i must confess, that i do not have any regret about my monitor dimension choice.
