HI guys,

I bought Battle Of Bodenplatte as a stand alone, but just wondering what other IL2 title(s) i should get next - funds permitting - as i find online some servers are limited to planes i don't have...

What would you good folks suggest?

Cheers

For multiplayer, I've heard Stalingrad is the title to have. For single player Kuban, hands down.

Either Battle of Stalingrad or Battle of Kuban will give you a good collection of mid war Eastern Front. A lot of people skip Battle of Moscow but it has some real gems in that aircraft set too.

Great guys! Thanks! I'm getting into the multiplayer side of things so will look at those...waiting for Normandy which looks very cool indeed!

Moscow got the JU 88. MIG, I 16, p40 irreplaceable aircraft. You will end up with them all. If I got to choose today eith s strict budget I would buy as the history in game and leave bobp out for later.

My recommendation for BoM has fallen to last due to my joy in the Spitfire IX and Tempest. YMMV. The P-40 makes me want to bail out and surrender.

  1. BoS
  2. BoK
  3. BoBp
  4. BoM

My priority would be Battle of Moscow actually... it has some early war aircraft (Bf-109E, F2, I-16, Mig-3) which are a real joy to fly, provide a different experience, and some continued in use until later in the war.

I have a feeling that I'd recommend to new players to get the maximum variety of experience:

- Get Normandy and Moscow

- Along with the U-2VS & Hs-129 collector planes (and maybe the P-38 and Ju-52 collector planes).

Eventually pick up the Battle of Kuban for the ever-lovely P-39 and Battle of Stalingrad for the LaGG and Ju-87 dive bomber... these ,modules will also provide you with a couple of earlier Yak models and a couple of He-111 variants, the A-20, a mid-war Bf-110, and an Il-2 with a better gunner and anti-tank bomblets...

  1. BoS

  3. BoBp
  4. BoM

I'd recommend to get them all at once, if financially possible. If that's not an option, I'd recommend the exact same order as above.

BoS gives you a plane set I'd like to call essential to start your journey as a WWII pilot.

BoK offers a very good plane set as well, but especially shines with the Kuban map, which is easily the best map of them all.

BoBp brings both the late war planes and a nice, really big map into the game. Both the P-38 and the Spitfire Mk. IX are my two favorite airframes, so I have a personal bias towards this module over...

... BoM. Again, this module brings you some very nice early war planes, like the I-16 and the Bf-109 E (the 'most different' Bf-109 experience you can get in this game), which are a joy to fly. Still, I'd recommend this one the least.

Again, all modules are very good and offer their own experiences and come with different advantages. My list is a result of pure personal bias, of course, but be assured: Even in my book 'top tier' BoS and 'bottom tier' BoM are not seperated far from each other, quality wise.

excellent info chaps, and appreciate the input form you vets... after a few games on BoBP, it sure is a learning curve to trying to stay alive, navigate, spot etc.. i did manage to shoot down 1 BF110.. then proceeded to get annihilated by a swarm of angry 109s after that..lol

What a great flying experience though... i can imagine it would be better with voice... and a wingman....

Stalingrad:

pros: The original.  Has a great plane set that works really well for many things.

cons: it's in the middle of the war so from a career point of view it's like starting in the middle of a book and not being able to finish it.  Scenery is not all that.

Moscow:

pros: Some great early war planes.  Lets you start a career from the beginning.

cons: Not the best MP selection unless you find a server catering to that plane set.  Not the best if you prefer the late war hot rods.  Scenery is kind of bland.

Kuban:

pros: great mid war planes including 190A5 and P39.  Best scenery.  Get to fly over water.

cons: From a career standpoint it is once again start in the middle.

If I was going to pick only one I would take Kuban.  I like the plane set and it's nice not to see snow ... and more snow.  Or grass ... and more grass.

As a career guy I would buy Moscow to start at the start and then pick up the others as I got to them in my career.

As an MP player Stalingrad probably has the most flexible plane set.

Yeah, what Patrick says. The Kuban map is just so much more interesting than the others. Mountains, plains, forests, farmland and the sea. Navigating round it is great fun.
